Ellen Pompeo has a habit of bashing Grey’s Anatomy, the show that has made her a household name and wealthy. And it sounds like she did it again. The actress sat down with People to talk about her new limited series, but they still talked about her old one.
Although we do not hear the interviewer’s question, it seems like they asked her what is the best thing about being part of the medical drama. “Well, the best thing is the financial security, if I’m being very honest. It’s been really lucrative. And I think financial security is not something that every actress has afforded, so I’m very grateful for that.” Then she added, “The hardest thing is just the repetitive nature of doing the same thing over and over. You know, there’s a familiarity with Grey’s that people love. So, we can’t change it too much. I mean, I would love to change it so much. I’m always like, ‘Let’s do this, and let’s do that!’ and they’re like, ‘Shut up, Ellen, we’re not doing that.'”
It is amazing to me that someone can sound like they hate doing their job and yet stay at it for 20 years. And the fact that they keep paying her millions and keeping her there after all of the negative things she has said still surprises me. And yet, so many more talented people were let go for Grey’s over the decades. I will never understand it.
However, I have to admit not everything she said was negative. She loves that the series has influenced people to become surgeons. “It is what has kept me as part of the show for so long. It really does touch people in a way that not many people get the opportunity to touch people the way that show has, for the better.”
And do you think it would be for the better if they finally do to Meredith Grey what they did to her parents, husband, sister, friends, and so on…
Although, I wonder how much longer Grey’s will go on since Ryan Murphy is ABC’s new darling.
