Tonight at 9p, Jason Jones and Samantha Bee bring a show loosely based on their unusual family vacation experiences to TBS in The Detour.
Nate (Jones) is taking his family on a work vacation with him to Florida, but when he loses his job they take a sudden detour. Instead of flying, he decides to drive there with his wife Robin (Natalie Zea) and their kids Delilah (Ashley Gerasimovich) and Jared (Liam Carroll) in their car nicknamed Blue Thunder. Biggest problem is that he hasn’t told about being fired and something else you will find out at the end of tonight’s episode.
But I got ahead of myself. Tonight episode starts off with them stopping at a place that looks like an ice creams shop, but turns out the be a stripper joint. Their young son learns a thing or two about women, while his twin sister gets her period for the first time and becomes a woman. When Delilah finds this out, she is alone in the bathroom and her mom is stuck outside, so the strippers tell her all about it. When it is time to go, she has also learned out.
Now the family gets back on the road, and the kids write a note telling cars passing by that they have been kidnapped. When a trucker and his wife believe them, they are all left in a vary awkward situation. This time when they try to get on the road again, the car won’t start. They put Jared in the driver’s seat to get it started and he runs it off the road.
That is just tonight’s episode. Next week, while they wait to get their car fixed, they stay in a hotel. Robin gets high and flirts with a bellboy, the kids get even more lessons of adulthood and Nate loses his bathing suit.
In the coming weeks, they get a really really bad case of food poisoning after going to a themed restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Stay at a Bed and Breakfast that is rightfully protested. But the biggest shocker comes in the 6th episode when the kids find out how their parents really met. That in turn, let’s them discover a lot more about their conception and such so they will never be the same.
How good is The Detour? TBS picked up for a second season before it even aired.
I didn’t know much about it when I started watching the screeners, so I was thoroughly surprised how much I loved and laughed at the first 6 episodes that TBS provided. It reminded me of National Lampoon’s Vacation because it is just as smart and hilarious. So be prepared to laugh and to cancel your family vacation after you watch The Detour tonight and every Monday at 9p.
When Rizzoli & Isles last left off, Isles (Sasha Alexander) was kidnapped by an unknown assailant. Tonight’s episode at 9p on TNT picks up exactly where they left off. Now Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and Korsak (Bruce McGill) need to find her before it is too late. Only problem, is the kidnapper didn’t leave a lot of evidence behind and every lead turns out to be a dead end. Will they rescue her in time?
Isles’ disappearance is taking their toll on everyone, especially Rizzoli who will never be the same. All of this is setting up for the show’s final episodes. Which I totally disagree with TNT about because I think the show has many more years ahead of it.
But I am getting ahead of myself. Tonight we are getting not one, but two episodes and the second one is a much lighter, happier one. When the owner of pot dispensary is killed, it is up to Rizzoli and Korsak to find his killer. They discover there is much more to his murder than meets the eye.
While investigating his murder, they need to test the pot from his store to make sure it matches some other marijuana. In the process of testing it, some of them will get really high and tell really bad jokes that only they will laugh at. Who doesn’t love to watch people get high and tell bad jokes?
So tune in for two great episodes of TNT’s best procedural. Maybe if we get the ratings up, they will reconsider their decision about ending the show.

Earlier this week TNT announced that they are rebooting Tales From the Crypt with M Night Shyamalan and the director is asking for your help. He Tweeted, “What are your favorite ‘Tales from The Crypt’ comics and episodes? Looking to adapt some and I’m ready to dig in!” So if you want to see your favorite episode from the original series redone by him, let him know.
Personally, I think this is the perfect project for him. His movies play like drawn out Twilight episodes, so I expect him to a great job with this. What do you think of him helming the Crypt?

Ever since Kevin Reilly joined the Turner family, I have not been happy with what he has done to TNT and TBS. Since joining he cancelled Dallas, Sullivan & Son, Ground Floor and now King of the Nerds.
Booger aka Curtis Armstong broke the news on Twitter by saying, “As to @KingofNerdsTBS having a future home elsewhere & whether there is anything fans can do to help, I’ll let you know when I know.” In true nerd fashion, he followed it up with, “But then again…#StarTrekTOS only got three seasons too, right? ;)” Although he did not say it, he did hint that they may shop it around to other networks.
Hopefully GSN will consider picking up because this endearing competition show. While so many other shows like this one are mean spirited, KOTN was anything but. I want to see it go on and I am really hoping it does.
Now back to Reilly, not only am I unhappy with the all the cancellations, I am not liking the direction of a lot of their dramas on TNT. I gave up Murder in the First and Last Ship after 2 episodes this season because they became so convoluted and boring. There are too many other good things on television to watch to waste time on shows that aren’t. Then there is Public Morals that put me to sleep every time I attempted to watch the pilot episode, so I just gave up trying. Finally, he gave Rizolli & Isles a shorter season and that is one of their biggest shows. But then again, it wasn’t as good this season, so a shorter one might be a good idea. Am I the only one getting ready to break up with TBS & TNT?
Angie Harmon shared a photo of herself with Chad Lowe and he looks really happy. Why? He is surrounded by a bunches of marijuana. Why? It is for something they are doing on Rizzoli & Isles. And you thought he was having fun on Pretty Little Liars, it ain’t nothing on the TNT show that airs tonight at 9p.
