Tonight at 10p on Showtime the final 4 episodes of The Big C begin and you are going to want to have several boxes of tissues by your side when you watch it.
The episode starts off where the season finale left and the show goes back the excellence it gave us in the first season. Cathy is sicker than she has ever been and the chemo is making things worse. She decides to go off of her treatment and faces the reality her end is near. She prepares her family for her fate in her own special way and that will give us some laughs through the many many many tears.
As the season goes on she will leave her family for a hospice where they can take better care of her and she won’t be so much of a burden on them. Even though she is in a place surrounded by death, she keeps her spunk about her.
As her time runs out, she only wants a few things. To see her son who is a junior graduate, her husband meet his next wife and to make a mends with her father. Will she get all of those things before you guess it?
You will have to watch 4 f*cking amazing hours of television to find out.
Can I tell you as I write this review, I am crying all over again thinking about the powerful final episodes. I have had the episodes for over a month, but I didn’t watch them all until yesterday because I knew it was not going to be easy. As tough as I thought it would be to watch, it was worse than I imagined. But then again I made the mistake of watching all 4 at once. Do not, I repeat, do not marathon watch it like I did. It is emotionally draining, but it is still something I highly suggest you watch. It is just that f*cking amazing.
I wish I could tell Laura Linney how fucking brilliant she is because she absolutely blew me away. She is one of the best actresses out there, and no one, I mean no one, could’ve done this role as well as her. How she did not win the Emmy for the first season still boggles my mind. And if she doesn’t win for this season, then the Emmy voters are completely off their stupid rockers.
But she isn’t the only one that blew me away. Oliver Platt is such a supportive husband to her on the show that he will win your heart over and over and over again. Gabriel Basso is still a teenager, but he plays the role of her son Adam as a man. He has such a future in this business. If you thought that Gabourey Sidibe made you tear up in Push, that ain’t nothing for what she will make your eyes do in the next 4 episodes. Then there is John Benjamin Hickey, who plays her brother and he gives us the laughs we need to get through the season. What a stellar cast, giving some of the best performances in their lives as they deliver the compelling lines the writers gave them.
I can’t say enough good things about the final season of the show. It should be given to families whose loved ones are suffering through a terminal disease, to help them cope with the inevitable. That is the best way I can describe these four hours that Showtime let grace our televisions.
That is all I am going to say because I need to run to Costco and replenish my supply of tissues because I went through more boxes than I can count yesterday watching The Big C.
Nurse Jackie is back on Showtime tonight at 9p. She is still clean and sober, but that doesn’t mean the show is any less good. In fact this is the first season of the show that I actually enjoyed and couldn’t wait for the next episode and the one after that. In fact I watched all 10 episode of season 5 I was given in a day because I was that addicted to it.
Now that Nurse Jackie (Edie Falco) is sober, she has to figure out how to raise her kids as a single mom as she runs the nurses in the ER. Her soon-to-be ex-husband Kevin (Dominic Fumusa) is not making their divorce or getting custody of her kids easy. And her daughters are not going to make her life easy either because that is just what kids do. One of her friends will be leaving her and that will be hard on her. Plus she is going to start dating (Adam Ferrera) and he is pretty darn near perfect. Can she make that last or will she screw it up?
Then there is work. There is a new head doctor of the ER, Dr. Ike Prentiss (Morris Cheastnut), he is ex-military with trauma experience. He is really good at what he does and he is also really abrupt with everyone. Zoey (Merritt Wever) moves out, finds some independence and gets some something something! Coop (Peter Facinelli) will meet his match in an intern and she will have him by the balls. And of course there will be a lot of patients with a lot of interesting reasons why they are there. There will be birth, there will be death and everything in between.
And through all of this, Jackie will try to remain sober. Will she be able to do it or will she go back to her old ways? You just have to tune in to find out in what I think is the show’s best season yet.
David Steinberg is back with the second season of Inside Comedy on Showtime tonight at 11p and you don’t want to miss a single laugh on this talk show where you learn more about your favorite comedians than you ever thought you would find out about them.
On tonight’s season premiere you will learn that Louis C.K. does not want to take a picture with you, but he will do something else to make you happy. You will also see a very young Bob Newhart doing stand up and listen to his stories about how he got started. In the upcoming weeks, you will hear how Tina Fey’s daughter is disappointed in her. You will see Judd Apatow doing comedy with Second City. Find out how Jim Carrey got his job on In Living Color. Martin Mull shares with Steinberg that he was turned down for The Tonight Show, but another comedian got him on the show and they had to have him on. And then there is Drew Carey who had an even more interesting story when it comes to The Tonight Show that delayed the start of his career for three years, but made him a better comedian.
These are just a few of the examples of what you can expect from the show, but there is so much more to enjoy! Where else can you get to know some of the greatest comedians of today and yesteryear as well as you do on Inside Comedy? No where, so start watching it tonight on Showtime!
It seems like Matt Damon is all over the place these days and on Sunday at 10p he is going to be on Showtime’s House of Lies. The Oscar winner goes to the consultants to find a charity that is bigger than George Clooney’s thus making Jason Bourne look better than the Fantastic Mr Fox. Once he is in the meeting he then goes off on his Ocean’s co-star to Marty Kaan (Don Cheadle), who gets what he is going for. Which makes me wonder if these 2 Ocean’s stars are trying to tell us something about the man who was was their leader in the movies?
