Did Dave Navarro and I get tonight’s elimination wrong? |

I’m backstage at CBS waiting to get going on today’s elimination show. My money is on Jill or Zayra to go, but you never know, it might be time for Josh to go into his Hootie phase and hit the road. After watching the show last night, I really think Patrice is in danger too. She just didn’t sound so good on TV, plus she was super overshadowed by T Lee. In the studio when these guys are singing live, there is a lot of latitude in terms of sonic forgiveness. It always sounds better in the studio than it does on TV. The room sound, the live band and the PA all contribute to a better and fuller sounding performance. As for Zayra, we all know she is totally not right for the band, but I am starting to look forward to what the hell she is gonna do for each performance. It’s almost like we get a ten car pile up on stage on a weekly basis. She is kind of like the comedic intermission entertainment.

And Ryan Star will get laid after that performance!
My Rock Star: Supernova critique:
Patrice did not wow me even with Tommy Lee backing her up. WTF Josh did not get crap for doing reggae and Duran Duran is a no-no? If Diliana keeps screaming she might not have much of voice by the end of the competition. My throat hurts listening to her. Toby has a great voice, but got bored listening to him. Zayra is lucky Jill was so forgetable. She is known for her outfits, but some of singing hurt my ears. Magni was ok, but I got tears in my eyes when they offered to fly his family here. Lucas Rossi had an off night. It is like after he heard Ryan Star sing he saw his easy win, not so easy. I thought Storm started like lion, but did not end like the lamb she needed to. She is all power and not soft. Dana was good, but dull.
So now best and worst. Man Ryan blew me away and I am so over REM and that song. On the other hand I love Breakfast Club, Simple Minds and Don’t You Forget Me, but hated Jill.

Phil Ritchie interviewed about his elimination |

A few choice words turned out to be the end of the line for a local man’s stab at fronting an all-star national rock act. One of the judges, musician Dave Navarro, showed the studio audience a newspaper and quoted Ritchie’s interview in which he stated that his primary goal for competing was to promote his own longtime band, Lennex. “I mean, really I just hope to gain exposure. I love my band and I love the music,” Ritchie had said. “I’m not stoked about the music Supernova’s popping out.” In response, Ritchie told Navarro, Lee and Supernova members Jason Newstead (formerly of Metallica) and Gilby Clarke (formerly of Guns ’n’ Roses) that he did like other new tunes he’d heard since then. “When I said that, I’d only heard that one track. To be honest, I’m not a fan of that riff,” Ritchie said. Lee said Ritchie’s elimination should serve as an example to the other contestants about how to deal with the press. Ritchie, who will return to Los Angeles in September to appear on the series finale, arrived back in Maryland on Sunday. He said he was enjoying quiet time with friends and family after having spent a month on the West Coast. "I basically left my cell phone off the first day I was back, but now I’m slowly getting back into things," Ritchie said. Ritchie said he is disappointed that he won’t become Supernova’s frontman, but does not entirely regret his candor about what will amount to a life-changing career move for the winner. “There was another scene that was edited out where I told them that they’re auditioning us, but at the same time, we’re auditioning them,” Ritchie said.

Check out Ryan Star’s performance here. (Thanks LadyBug007) If he does not get the encore it will be a travesty.

What do Dave Navarro and Simon Cowell have in common? |

I am sitting in my dressing room backstage at Rockstar as I write this, which incidentally, is Simon Cowell’s dressing room. They shoot Idol on this stage too. It’s hard to believe we are already a month into this show. Today is our taping for the performances that air on Tuesday. Right now, Tommy is rockin some drums during our break. I’m telling you, if you have ever seen this guy play, you’ll know why I keep telling the singers to step up their performances. This is what I have been worried about this whole time. How is anybody gonna front this guy? I’m hoping some contestants accidentally walk by while he is up there. It’ll put the fear of God into them. Frankly, it’s almost unfair, hahahaha, but that’s the name of the game they are playing!
