Pete Doherty, lead singer with the rock band Babyshambles, returns to court next week to be sentenced for seven drug offences, prosecutors said on Friday. He is also due to face a review of a community order for previous drug offences at the appointment at Thames Magistrates Court in east London on Monday. Doherty pleaded guilty in August to four charges of possessing class A drugs including heroin and cocaine and one charge of possessing cannabis. The 27-year old self-confessed drug addict, who according to tabloids is still romantically linked to top model Kate Moss, has been in and out of court over the past year.

Rock star Pete Doherty has been voted the most "undeserving icon" of the year in a men’s magazine survey. Some 1,000 readers of Arena voted the Babyshambles singer, 27, as the personality least worthy of their celebrity status in an online poll. Doherty is rarely out of the headlines thanks to his high-profile relationship with model Kate Moss and his battle against drug addiction. Comedian and radio presenter Russell Brand came second in the list. Readers said Brand’s status was over-hyped. Syed Ahmed, contestant on BBC Two series The Apprentice, came third. The other celebrites listed in the top ten included film star Tom Cruise, chef Gordon Ramsey, Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell, comedian Jimmy Carr and Bob Geldof’s daughter Peaches. "We asked our readers to pick those people who have consumed the headlines and defined the last year for all the wrong reasons," said Arena editor William Drew. "Pete Doherty was voted the anti-icon of the year with 38% of the vote thanks to his drug habit which has popularised junkie chic and earned him an almost cult following. "This comes despite overwhelmingly mediocre music and less than inspiring live performances," he added.

Babyshambles are to play a show in a London department store car park. The band will perform in the seventh floor car park of the Oxford Street store Selfridges on December 7 at 1pm, and will be introduced onstage by members of punk legends the Sex Pistols. The event follows the appointment of Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty as the new face and inspiration behind the Gio-Goi range, and the gig will mark the official launch of the Spring Summer 2007 collection.

A livid Kate Moss has shelled out the cash for an anti-heroin implant in a last ditch attempt to get junkie boyfriend Pete Doherty off the drug for good. The supermodel was furious when Pete was arrested in East London last week on suspicion of possession of crack cocaine, and promptly paid for a week of treatment at a clinic in Portugal. Part of that treatment included an anti-heroin implant, inserted in to his abdomen – a tactic that Pete has tried before. With each implant costing £600, in addition to travel fees and clinic expenses, Kate is estimated to have spent several thousand pounds on cleaning Pete up. Onlookers observed that the Babyshambles frontman was not overly grateful for her efforts, however. Pete was allegedly seen slamming the phone down on Kate after a heated argument as he checked out of his hotel yesterday. Kate has already issued Pete an ultimatum: clean up his act, or lose her in the process.

BRITISH rock star Pete Doherty, the on-off boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss, is being treated for drug addiction at a clinic in Portugal, daily Portuguese newspaper 24Horas reported today. The 27-year-old Babyshambles frontman will have the drug naltrexone, which reduces the craving for heroin, implanted in his abdomen at the clinic at Oeiras, an oceanside suburb of Lisbon, it said, citing clinic sources. Doherty arrived in Portugal on Monday and is being accompanied by a British doctor, it added. The troubled singer has repeatedly sought treatment for drug addiction before in Portugal as well as at clinics in England, France and Thailand. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing crack cocaine earlier this month after he was spotted driving his Jaguar erratically near his home in East London. He was released on bail, along with a man and a woman who were in the car at the time, pending analysis of the substances recovered. All three were ordered to appear in court next month.
