The Dog Whisperer is back on Nat Geo at 8p and tonight he has a special guest star on the show. Howie Mandel who is known for his fear of his germs has another fear and he is hoping that Cesar Millan can cure him of this one! Lola is one of the toughest dogs you will ever meet and Howie and his wife desperately need help with this terror. Will Cesar be able to work his wonders on their little killer? Tune into Nat Geo at 8p to see if it will be a Deal or No Deal? I won’t tell you if he can work his magic on this one, but I will tell you I can totally understand why the America’s Got Talent judge is afraid of man’s best friend in this touching episode with a little humor added thanks to the funny Howie Mandel.
It really amazes me what Cesar can do with dogs in such a short time and you have to see the miracles he (tries to) accomplishes he each episode every Friday at 8p on Nat Geo!
BTW back to Howie for a second, I wonder if Piers Morgan gave him that dog because she seems to have his attitude…
It was 5 years ago today that Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas and tonight at 9p National Geographic Channel is going to tell the story like you have never seen it. Witness: Katrina is told through personal videos of people who lived through the worst hurricane that ever made landfall in the United States. There is very little narration (just to announce dates) in this 2 hour special, the only voices you will hear will be from the survivors themselves. It begins with the warning that the hurricane is coming their ways and then follows their story after they were asked to evacuate, as the storm hits, what happens to them because they stayed and ends a few days after the hurricane dissipated and the flooding starts to go down.
There were several times during this two hour special that I had chills go down my arms and I never once lost interest what I was watching. I can’t imagine what they went through, but this gives us a little bit more of an understanding what happened before and after Katrina. You see their reactions before, during and after the storm and get to see what they went through during each stage of it. This is an amazing special that everyone should watch because it is told by the people themselves and not through news channels nor politicians. You can’t get anymore real than that, so make sure to watch it tonight on Nat Geo at 9p.
BTW for those of you wondering about the dog at the end of the clip, according to an update at the end of the special Hop survived the storm!
Back in 1978 Bill Hayes’ story about his time in a Turkish prison that was adapted from his book into the Oscar winning movie Midnight Express starring the late great Brad David. Now almost 40 years later he is telling the real story of what happened to the National Geographic channel tonight at 10p in Locked Up Abroad: The Real Midnight Express. Something he was not able to do until now and what an captivating story it is. I can still remember seeing Midnight Express for the first time and sitting there being held hostage by how engrossing the story was. Recently when I sat down to watch Hayes tell his story in this documentary I was even more engrossed. I couldn’t tear myself away from the screen. What he went through and how he survived his time in the Turkish prison just kept my interest from the beginning of the hour until the end. Even 4 decades later his unfortunate journey brought tears to his eyes and to mine. What he went through should have left a bitter shriveled up man, but he has a strength that just left me in awe of him. He was just 23 years old and made the stupid mistake of smuggling hashish from Turkey to the US, but was is it worth all he went through in those 4 years in prison. His story opened to the world what was going on in Turkish prisons back in the late 1970’s and now in the new millennium telling it again will give a new generation a story of strength during and after an unimaginable experience and how to survive it.
Locked Up Abroad: The Real Midnight Express is something that I think should be watched because not only can the real story be better than the fictionalized one, but it can also beone of the best hours of television you will watch in a really long time. Then after you watch it, re-watch the 1978 movie again because you will have a completely new appreciation for it. I know I did.
Bill Hayes’ story of being Locked Up Abroad is the first in the series of documentaries that will be airing on the National Geographic Channel on Tuesday for the next few weeks and they will be showing the stories of people who were locked up in Barbados, Cuzco, Saddam’s Iraq, Tokyo and Bangkok.
Dr. Michael Domeier says, “…what I really want … is to understand the entire life cycle of white sharks.… Once we learn that, we could help put together a comprehensive management plan to protect white sharks year round.†So what he is doing is capturing great whites, tagging them, setting them free and letting you watch his journey on National Geographic Channel’s Expedition Great White. You will get a never-before-seen view of what they go through, and the risks they put themselves in to help the apex predator of the sea. You will feel the thrill and danger with them, but you are protected by watching from the comfort of you own home. Even though you are comfortable your heart will be racing in the excitement of it all. So tune in for two episodes tonight on NGC at starting at 9p and every Sunday from now on at 10p.
