Disgraced Hollywood star MEL GIBSON has finally said sorry to the three police officers he insulted when arrested for drink-driving two months ago. The PASSION OF THE CHRIST actor sent a female officer a $500 bouquet with a note expressing "sincere apologies" and has invited her and her male colleague, JAMES MEE, to the premiere of his new movie APOCALYPTO. Gibson launched a blistering volley of abuse against the woman when escorted to his cell, calling her "sugartits", and subjected Mee, who is Jewish, to an anti-Semitic tirade when pulled over in his vehicle. A colleague of the unnamed female officer says, "Mel has sent her the biggest bunch of flowers she’s ever seen with a note. She was quite touched and I’m sure that the two arresting officers will take him up on his invitation."

I guess he saw all the positive press Tom Cruise got for apologizing to Brooke Sheilds, he figured he would try it too. Plus it is the only was he can people to see Apocalypto. That movie looks so boring, I can not imagine anyone who is not obsessive about the Mayans actually wanting to go see it. That is if Disney still decides to release it.

Film legend Jerry Lewis has the perfect punishment in mind for Mel Gibson. "I’m doing a film with Mel Gibson and his father," Lewis told reporters Thursday at a pre-telethon media gathering. "I’m going to direct it, and I’m calling it ‘Skinheads,’ and we’re going to open in Haifa and then go on to Berlin and Jerusalem and Tel Aviv," Lewis said. "It should be wonderful. It’s an exciting idea."Gibson created an international stir in July when he went on an anti-Semitic tirade after being picked up on suspicion of drunken driving. Among his rants to the arresting officer: "The Jews are responsible for all the wars."The 80-year-old Lewis, who hosts his 41st telethon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Sunday and Monday at the South Coast, also confirmed that he’s in talks with "Will & Grace" star Sean Hayes for a remake of "Cinderfella."

Mel Gibson’s apology for making drunken anti-Semitic remarks isn’t enough to redeem him, actor-producer Rob Reiner said. The actor also must acknowledge that "his work reflects anti-Semitism," particularly the 2004 hit movie "The Passion of the Christ," Reiner told Associated Press Radio."When he comes to the understanding that he has done that, and can come out and say, you know, ‘My views have been reflected in my work and I feel bad that I’ve done that,’ then that will be the beginning of some reconciliation for him," Reiner said. Some critics attacked Gibson’s movie as portraying Jews as evil. Supporters said the movie was merely being faithful to Gospel accounts of Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion.Gibson publicly apologized for an anti-Semitic tirade he unleashed when he was arrested for drunken driving in Malibu on July 28. He has called the remarks "despicable."Reiner, however, said Gibson also must do some "major soul-searching.""It’s not a matter of just apologizing for some words you’ve said," said Reiner, who is Jewish. "It’s to really understand why it is you’re anti-Semitic and where those feelings came from.""I believe that people can be redeemed and people can change, but that’s going to be a very long process," he added.

Mel Gibson has decided to make good with the Jewish community, one Jew at a time.TMZ has learned that Gibson has been calling entertainment industry honchos with whom he’s worked in the past and apologizing for his anti-Semitic rant the morning of his DUI arrest. Two of the people he called say Gibson told them that he wanted them to know that he was really sorry and he was working on his "problem." Gibson also said that he hoped he would be able to work with them again. The two people who gave the debrief on Gibson’s conversation to TMZ say that they were less than moved by the actor’s apology. One said he was civil to Gibson but was unconvinced that Gibson has changed his stripes.Gibson has declined offers to speak before larger groups. His publicist says the actor is consumed with his recovery at the moment and cannot deal with other matters until he gets his life under control. It is unclear why Gibson began making the calls, however his rep has told TMZ that his client was in a recovery program, which includes a 12-step program to sobriety. Step #9 is making amends. If Gibson is on Step #9, he clearly is on the fast track.

Isn’t it ironic he started doing right as Tom Cruise was dumped by Paramount. Wonder if he is calling every Jew in Disney to save his career?
