Daniel Craig to do only one more Bond film? |
June 29th, 2007 under James Bond. [ Comments: none ]

Daniel Craig is hinting he will only do one more James Bond fan. According to Sky Showbiz he said, "I don't want to make just spy films. I've never made movies for money." I hope he rethinks his decision because at first I thought he would be a terrible Bond, but he has proven that he has been one of the better ones of late.

"Casino Royale" has shot past the worldwide record for a James Bond movie, thanks mostly to strong international performance over the Christmas holiday weekend. Sony’s "Casino" cashed in overseas with $14.5 million at 6,300 during the weekend through Sunday, lifting the foreign total to $304.4 million — the 41st biggest international gross of all time. It’s only the fourth 2006 pic to clear $300 million, joining "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest," "The Da Vinci Code" and "Ice Age: The Meltdown." With domestic gross near $144 million, "Casino" has a worldwide total of $448 million — $17 million better than "Die Another Day," the previous best Bond performer. It opened solidly in South Korea with $2.3 million at 350.

The tuxedo Daniel Craig wore as James Bond in Casino Royale will be auctioned off for charity, reports the BBC. Along with such prizes as a walk on part in US hit serial Desperate Housewives, the gold Big Brother diary room chair, and a visit to the Hawaii set where US television’s Lost is filmed, all proceeds will go towards helping ChildLine reach their 20th birthday goal of £20 million. ChildLine is a free, confidential helpline that operates 24 hours a day for children and young people with problems. ‘Your bid will enable ChildLine to increase the number of children it helps,’ said Esther Rantzen, a spokesperson for the charity. Bidding starts on 1 December, with the live auction to take place at the ChildLine Ball on 9 December.

Daniel Craig refused to go from Blond, James Blond |
November 26th, 2006 under James Bond. [ Comments: none ]

James Bond actor Daniel Craig pumped iron for months to build up a 007 torso, but there was one dramatic change he would not undertake – the man with the golden gun refused to part with his golden hairdo. Despite pressure from directors, Craig would not change the colour of his locks from blond to dark brown for Casino Royale, which is on course to become the most successful Bond film ever. He said: "I was asked to dye my hair brown to play this role but it was out of the question. "I suggested instead that I could cut my hair really short to create a more brutal appearance." Those who initially opposed Craig as Ian Fleming’s legendary British agent cited a number of factors, ranging from his height – at 5ft 11in he is shorter than all the previous Bond actors by at least 2in – to his unremarkable looks. But it was his hair which provoked the most criticism, with many referring to him as "James Blond’. Answering critics that he often appeared more like a "James Bond girl’ in some scenes, especially when he emerges from the sea wearing nothing but a pair of swimming trunks, Craig agreed. He said: "The times change. That scene was a wink to Ursula Andress in Dr No, who also played Vesper Lynd in the first Casino Royale in 1967. Four decades later and it’s James who leaves the water in swimming trunks and attracts the looks." The criticisms, however, have faded away as Casino Royale raked in the biggest-ever opening for a Bond film in Britain last weekend, as it grossed £13.4million and topped the UK box office.

I have to admit at first I hated that he was a blond Bond, but now I like it!
