So to promote Hairspray they are releasing doll version of the leads in July! And believe it or not they are not that expensive, they are going for $15! And how cute are these dolls? I so want the John Travolta one! There is just something so lovable about him in this role, I don’t know why?
Anyways back to the dolls, USA Today did an interview with Nicole Blonsky, Travolta and Zac Efron to see what they thought of their dolls. “I’m a doll!” Blonsky gushed in a phone interview “Oh, my goodness, it’s me. It’s adorable. The first thing I’m noticing are the chubby hands and short fingers. That may sound weird, but I have very small hands, and those are my hands.” Travolta who has had a doll made of himself beforehand as Vinnie Barbarino, E-Mailed this response, “It is very cute. The outfit is “perfect,” and he can’t wait to show it to his wife, Kelly Preston, and their daughter, Ella, 7, who “will really like it.” Zac Efron says, “Having a doll of yourself is completely surreal.” Blonsky added that she is going to buy everyone in her a family and her friends a Tracy Turnblad doll for Christmas! How cute is that?

Debuting at the 2007 American International Toy Fair, the Hairspray doll line includes highly detailed representations of the main characters from the film, offering fans a chance to take home a piece of the movie. “Last year we went looking for a company to translate the fun and visual excitement of Hairspray to a line of fashion dolls,†said Dave Imhoff, Senior Executive Vice President of Worldwide Licensing & Merchandising, New Line Cinema. “When Play Along came back and said they could
make the dolls sing some of the wonderful songs in the film, we knew we had the partner we wanted.†Hitting retails shelves in July 2007 to coincide with the theatrical release, the Hairspray dolls offer authentic replicas of the central characters in the movie, including Edna Turnblad (played by John Travolta), Tracy Turnblad (played by newcomer Nicole Blonsky), Penny Pingleton (played by Amanda Bynes) and Link Larkin (played by tween heartthrob Zac Efron from Disney’s High School Musical). Wearing their
signature fashions from key scenes in the film, the detailed dolls stand between 10 1/2 and 12 inches tall. Whoever did the makeup and costumes on this movie should win the Oscar next year because so many of these stars are unrecgonizable! I still can’t believe that is Queen Latifa in the second picture, Michelle Pfieffer look amazing and doesn’t Zac Efron kind of look like a young Elvis? I can’t wait for this movie, but y’all know that!
