Reality TV star Anna Nicole Smith exchanged vows with boyfriend Howard K. Stern on a boat near Nassau but there was no formal marriage and the ceremony is "not legally binding," her attorney Michael Scott said Friday. The exchange of vows happened aboard a catamaran Thursday, 18 days after Smith’s 20-year-old son Daniel Smith died as he was visiting her in a Nassau hospital, where she had given birth to a baby girl, Scott said. The couple "exchanged vows before God" but did not obtain a marriage license, Scott told The Associated Press. Stern says he is the father of baby of the 38-year-old former Playboy Playmate.

Does that make sense? Because it hurts my brain trying to understand what is going on Anna Nicole’s life anymore. Ouch

The death of Anna Nicole Smith’s 20-year-old son Daniel was caused by a lethal combination of methadone, Zoloft and Lexapro, pathologist Cyril Wecht has revealed to PEOPLE exclusively. Wecht said the drugs caused the cardiac dysrhythmia that led to Daniel’s death. Wecht got the toxicology results from National Medical Services in Willow Grove, Pa., today. Daniel Smith died in his mother’s hospital room Sept. 10 while visiting her in the Bahamas three days after she gave birth to a baby girl named Dannielynn Hope. Smith’s longtime lawyer, Howard K. Stern, revealed Tuesday that he is the father of the little girl.

Even though I know that Cyril Wecht is one of the top coroner’s in the world, I have a tough time beliving these findings.

Larry Birkhead, the photojournalist who came forward during Anna Nicole Smith’s pregnancy and claimed to have fathered Smith’s child, tells Us Weekly that he stands by his story. Smith gave birth to a baby girl, Dannielynn Hope, on September 7, but has been mum on the identity of the father. Last night, her longtime lawyer, Howard K. Stern gave an interview to CNN’s Larry King Live saying that he is the "proud father" of the child. In an exclusive interview with Us, Birkhead calls Stern’s comments “laughable." He adds: “I am not surprised he would say this but I am laughing at it. Larry King didn’t even believe Howard." Birkhead also tells Us that he is willing to take a DNA test anytime to prove he is the father. “I have asked for a DNA test and I welcome it." There is no word on whether a paternity test will be administered, but Birkhead is already confident as to the outcome. “I am in good spirits this morning because I know I am the father of the child," he says. "I look forward to having a relationship with my new daughter.”

I can’t say I blame him because we all know it is his.

Anna Nicole’s lawyer is the father of her baby girl? |

ANNA NICOLE SMITH’s close friend, lawyer and confidante, HOWARD K. STERN, broke his silence Tuesday night on "LARRY KING Live" for the first time on TV following the sudden death of Anna Nicole’s son, DANIEL. In a bombshell interview, Stern claims that he is the proud father of Anna Nicole’s baby girl, who he says is named DANNYLYNN HOPE (sic). "Anna and I have been in a relationship, and we love each other, and it’s been going a very long time," he told King. "[Due to the fact that I am her lawyer], we felt it was best to keep everything hidden." When pressed by King whether or not he is the father of the child, Stern replied, "Yes sir. Proud father. Based on the timing of when the baby was born, there is no doubt on our minds." Last week, photographer LARRY BIRKHEAD came forward to ET, claiming he is the father of Anna Nicole’s child and is willing to take a paternity test. Stern acknowledged that he himself has not yet taken a paternity test, but he won’t be doing Birkhead "any favors" and questioned the man’s reasoning for the claim. "First you have to look at what his motives are," said Stern. "It’s unforgivable … that he would go to the media and not wait for Daniel to be put to rest. If he truly felt he was the father, I think he would have handled it differently." Stern added that he and Anna Nicole plan to get married at some point in the near future: "With everything that’s gone on, we’ve realized [how much we love each other] … We will; at some point we will. We have to get through what we’re going through. … We really haven’t been allowed to grieve, with the whole way this has been handled." As for Anna Nicole’s condition, the worn-out-looking lawyer explained, at times choking back emotion, "She’s having a tough time of it; I can’t really imagine a worse condition. … Daniel was her rock, so everything that she’s gone through, Daniel’s been with her, and honestly I don’t know how we’re going to get through this." Stern was with Anna Nicole when she found the lifeless body of her 20-year-old son in her hospital bedroom just days after giving birth to her baby daughter earlier this month. He had picked up Daniel from the airport, and regarding the hours leading up to his sudden passing, he said to King, "It was one of the best nights I’ve ever remembered. Anna had her son and her new baby girl, I was there, and it was great." In the middle of the night, Stern said Daniel stayed up to watch TV and helped his mom to the bathroom several times. Then, Stern recalled, "At one point Daniel said to me, ‘How come I’m so tired?’ In hindsight, I wish that I had seen that as some sort of a signal, and seen that something wasn’t right." Two separate autopsies were performed on Daniel to determine the cause of death — one by Bahamian officials and one by private pathologist CYRIL WECHT — but toxicology reports were inconclusive; they reportedly came back negative for any illegal substances, and the reported prescription drugs in his system were not at levels high enough to be deadly. The results of two more toxicology tests are yet to be released. "There’s just no way that Daniel would have taken his life," Stern told King. "He was so excited to come here to be with his mom and see his sister — I couldn’t fathom that he would have done this intentionally." Daniel’s body remains in the Bahamas, and Stern did not want to reveal details about the funeral.

OMG! This story gets weirder and weirder everyday. But part of me just doesn’t believe he is the father, he might say that just so that Larry Birkhead won’t file for custody. But then again with Anna Nicole who the freak knows what is next?

Did Anna Nicole profit from the last photos of her son? |

Reality show star Anna Nicole Smith, who suffered a shocking tragedy last week with the death of her 20-year-old son, might need some new handlers. Reps for the 38-year-old Smith and her photo agent, Getty Images, have received more than $600,000 for the rights to snapshots of her late son, Daniel. The lad posed with his mother and his new sister in a Bahamian maternity ward the night before he was found slumped dead in a chair Sept. 10. In Touch magazine paid as much as $400,000 for the print exclusive on photos, and the Paramount-produced television shows "Entertainment Tonight" and "The Insider" forked over an estimated $250,000 for the TV exclusive. In Touch won the rights, I hear, after topping People’s bid of $350,000. A spokeswoman for In Touch told me, "There is an incredible amount of emotion attached to this story and the photos, and our story will be a tribute to Daniel’s life as a well as a celebration of it." I’m told that Anna Nicole has vague plans to use a portion of the money for a Daniel Smith memorial, and it wasn’t clear yesterday what percentage of the proceeds Getty is taking as a commission. But word is that freelance photographer Larry Birkhead — who claims to be the father of the newborn, reportedly named Hannah — also substantially fattened his bank account by cooperating with "E.T." Birkhead, who until now has refused to comment on the death of Daniel Smith (and didn’t respond to Lowdown’s E-mail yesterday), sat down for a two-part interview with correspondent Victoria Recaño for broadcast last night and tonight.

If true, this is just sick.
