Who didn’t watch American Idol last night?

You know, that little TV show we like to watch on Tuesdays and Wednesdays just may become a hit. Preliminary Nielsen numbers indicate that the Idol premiere, the less-than-brilliant Minneapolis auditions, was watched by 37.3 million people. That’s an unbelievable number in this age of fragmented TV viewing, 300 channels, etc., etc. It also, if the final numbers confirm it, will be the second-most-watched Idol episode ever, bigger than last year’s final, second only to the 2003 Season 2 Ruben/Clay showdown.

Even though the numbers were beyond amazing, I thought it was one of the worst episodes ever. It was just blah, no one that was that good or that bad, you know.

Did Jamie Lynn Ward lie on American Idol when she said her dad shot her mom because he cheated on her?
February 19th, 2007 under American Idol 6. [ Comments: 1 ]

One of the most memorable American Idol auditions so far? It belongs to Jamie Lynn Ward in Birmingham. Ward is off to Hollywood – but some question whether this is due to her singing ability or unique, sad background. For those who believe it’s the latter, they may be dismayed to believe that Jamie’s story – of taking care of a paralyzed father who shot himself and his wife after he caught his love cheating – may not be accurate. The American Idol hopeful’s step-mother, Beverly, wants to set a two things straight regarding the incident: 1. She was not cheating on her husband 2. He didn’t shoot her because he caught her in the act According to Beverly, her husband James shot her after an argument. She believes that alcohol, Valium, and stress contributed to his actions. As for hearing Jamie talk about the shooting on national TV, Beverly says she felt emotionally “destroyed.” Ward’s grandmother, Sue also doesn’t know what possessed Jamie to share her family’s tragedy: “I don’t know if it was her nerves or if they just pressed her for her story.” The obvious, cynical conclusion would be that Jamie embellished the details in order to garner sympathy and move past the first round. But we hope that isn’t the case.

If you read the Reidsville Review article about the shooting, it sounds like maybe she did lie about why her father shot her mom? But not knowing the case and just reading the article we can’t jump to any conclusions. Maybe she does not know the whole story about what happened between her parents that day?
Either way it is a sad situation for a young girl to go through in her life.

Strange American Idol 6 rumor of the day?
February 19th, 2007 under American Idol 6. [ Comments: none ]

There is a very interesting rumor buzzing around the Internet about an American Idol 6 contestant possible getting disqualified for refusing to cut his hair. Granted this isn’t as shocking as say Courtney Love or somebody replacing Paula Abdul on the judging panel, but as American Idol rumors go it is one of the more unusual ones to surface. The contestant in question is Fidel Castro look-a-like Sean Michel who wowed the judges at the Memphis auditions with a killer performance of Johnny Cash’s “God’s Gonna Cut You Down.”

Reality TV Magazine  and Sean Michel’s MySpace

I don’t think that is true because Bo Bice also had long hair? I do think by the looks of his MySpace page that he does not move on past Hollywood?
Call me superficial, but there is no way, no matter how great his voice was, that I would vote for him because of his looks.

Two American Idol contestants from last night have police records
February 19th, 2007 under American Idol 6. [ Comments: none ]

Akron Watson, an "American Idol" contestant from Dallas and one of the feel-good stories of the new season, has been disinvited from the Hollywood round of the show, possibly after producers discovered a pot bust on his record. Watson, whose San Antonio audition aired on last night’s "Idol," was arrested in April 2003 for misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to court records obtained and posted by PegasusNews.com. He was headed to Hollywood after impressing the judges with his singing, and his story. But Watson tells Pegasus News that two days before he was scheduled to leave for Hollywood, he received a call saying that he would not be competing anymore "for unknown reasons." "Idol" producers did not comment on their withdrawn invitation. Meanwhile, another contestant from San Antonio, facemaker Ashlyn Carr, was reportedly arrested in August for pouring sugar into the gas tank of her ex-boyfriend while a student at Sam Houston State University, according to a report in The Houstonian Online. When confronted by police, says the Houstonian, Carr confessed to the crime.

Akron Watson is making a plea on his MySpace that they bring him back. Personally I would rather see his cousin back than him.
Just like Lost. American Idol is boring me this season. There is no one I am rooting for yet, but that has been the case in previous seasons too. Also it seems like even the Idol editors have not picked someone like they have in previous seasons. I can’t wait until March 13th when we finally have out top 12!

Possible American Idol All-Stars special?
February 19th, 2007 under American Idol 6. [ Comments: none ]

"American Idol" producer Nigel Lythgoe has proposed a way to bring back a number of favorites from past seasons of the FOX reality hit. He proposed augmenting the show’s previously announced songwriting competition with a few popular non-winners and possibly milking a special episode out of the stunt. "They’re talking about doing a song competition on the web and have people write songs for the next ‘American Idol’ finale, because whenever they come out and sing the song at the American finale, the only bloody criticism Randy Jackson can do is ‘Oh, I don’t like that song.’ Well, that’s not very helpful. They’re gonna be putting it out next week and trying to sell it and there’s you saying ‘I don’t like the song,’" Lythgoe explains. He continues, "My idea was: OK, give me 10 songs and I will bring back 10 ‘Idol’ finalists to sing them on a special and then America can really see them. Rather than just have them on the web and download them or whatever, let’s see Constantine Maroulis again. Let’s see Ace Young. Let’s see Vonzell and Tamyra Gray and all the great people we voted for over the years. I’d love to do that and with good reason at the end of the day for doing it, which is to produce the song that the next American Idol’s gonna sing." Lythgoe says that while he’s pitched the network on the idea, he has yet
to hear back.

Who would you want? I would want Clay Aiken, Constatine Maroulis, Jon Peter Lewis, Chris Daughtry, Ace Young, Matthew Metzger, Jennifer Hudson, Kimberly Locke, and I am not sure who the other two would be yet.
