Before Eric Stoltz was an only child in Mask, he had an annoying sister in The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank. He looks the same now as he did 16 in that 1978 movie.
Stoltz worked with Charles Grodin, who passed away from cancer today at the age of 86, on this film. The actor had sweet words for the man who played his dad.
One of my very first jobs was in this TV movie, playing Charles Grodin and Carol Burnett’s eldest son. They were wonderful to us young actors just starting out, and went out of their way to teach us, make us feel welcome, and give us advice about ‘the business’.
Years later he invited me to be on a talk show he was hosting, and we ended up talking about death and loss and how our society doesn’t really teach us how to handle all these inevitable events. It was a wonderfully awkward and kind of touching conversation, and I’m grateful to have known him.
Farewell Chuck. You will be missed.
