Back in 1982, Tears for Fears released a song called Mad World. For years, it was a haunting melody that was mostly known by their fans like me. Then in 2001, Gary Jules slowed it down, and it became a little more known thanks to it being featured on the Donnie Darko soundtrack.
Then as that decade started to close, Adam Lambert sang it on American Idol, and Cory Montieth did the same on Glee. Now, the 30-old-tune had a new fan base. One that keeps growing and growing with each new take on it.
There is another one out now, and this time it is by Pentatonix. The acapella singers took away the instruments and sang the tune with just their voices.
No matter who has sung it in the past, this song always reaches into your soul. This version reverberates as it is there. When all of them harmonize together, I feel the echo of the lyrics go through my whole body.
Therefore, sit and listen, sit and listen, to the little ditty that gets bigger with each voice that utters all of its words.
