April 8th, 2015 under X-Files

A few weeks ago Fox made a lot of people very happy when they announced that they are bringing back The X-Files. Last week, when David Duchovny was talking about his new NBC show Aquarius, that debuts on May 28th, at the NBC Summer Press Day, we wanted to know more about the show that made him a household name.
When he was asked, why now? He said, “We always wanted to keep it going, you know? We envisioned a movie franchise when we stopped the TV show and we did two. The second one did well, but, I guess, not well enough to do a third. We’re all kind of disappointed that that didn’t happen that way.” Then he added, “Then when television started to change, in that now there are limited runs. I would never have gone and done another 22 episodes of X-Files, but I’m going to do six. So it became like oh, well that’s like doing a movie, that’s like continuing the show in a way that we all can do at this point in our lives. So that’s how that all came about.”
Would he do more than the six episodes that were ordered if the fans still wanted to know more about that truth that is out there. He said, “I mean, six to me sounds very doable at any walk of my life, you know? It’s not a great hardship in terms of time. So I would hope it would be successful, I would hope we could continue, but right now we’re just looking at it as these six and then we’ll see what happens.”
He couldn’t tell us what’s coming up for the revival because he was honest and said that he doesn’t really know. In fact, he also took back what he said on The Late Show with David Letterman last week; he explained that he might’ve jumped the gun when he announced that Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) and The Smoking Man (William B. Davis) would be back. He’s sure they will be, but as of last week they had not signed on.
The X-Files is a still a whiles away, and he has two things coming up next month. As I mentioned he will be starring in the late ’60s police procedural with a Charles Manson twist, Aquarius, at the end of the month, but in the middle of the month he has something big going. He is going to release his debut album Hell or Highwater on May 12th. Wait, what? He shared his experience on how it happened. He said, “It’s just something that came about in the last few years. Just started playing guitar and singing and writing songs, and got somebody foolish enough to allow me to make an album. There it is. I would hope you would like it, all of you.”
The title track is available on iTunes now and you can pre-order the album when you buy the first single from it. When he was asked, what type of music it is, he suddenly became very humble. He said, “I’ve been told, and this is more a production than my own music, but REM or Wilco or even Lou Reed or Tom Petty.” I am not sure, why he was so humbled because the first track is extremely impressive. It’s the type of music you can relax to after a long stressful day and be sent to a much a calmer place after listening to it.
So what does he do to relax to, as in what TV shows does he watch? Are you sitting down? He said Dancing with the Stars. As much as he enjoys watching it, he does not intend to be on it as competitor. When someone asked him if he considered it a guilty pleasure, he responded with “I don’t feel guilt at all,” adding, “It’s just my pleasure.”
And it’s just a pleasure to watch him on TV, in movies, read his book, Holy Cow, and soon listen to his debut album. Is there anything he can’t do?
