Rami Malek did not sing in Bohemian Rhapsody
October 30th, 2018 under Freddie Mercury. [ Comments: none ]

Reese Witherspoon won an Oscar for singing like June Carter in Walk the Line. Val Kilmer wowed audiences when he sounded like just like Jim Morrison in The Doors. You would swear that Peter Dobson is The King of Rock’n’Roll anytime he plays Elvis Presley. Is Rami Malek up there with the likes of them?

According to NME, Malek lip synched to Canadian rocker Mark Martel’s vocals in Boheamian Rhapsody. Martel is known for sounding like the legendary Freddie Mercury.

Although NME adds that Malek’s vocals are mixed in with Martel’s. How much, who knows?

What we also know is that neither one of them will be heard on the movie’s soundtrack. Instead you will be hearing the real Queen songs on it. My theory, Queen wants to make as much money as they can off of this movie. Thus, they were insistent that their tunes be on the album.

Back to Martel, while he is not a Mercury clone. He is pretty close. Listen to his version of the title song. Chills!

Eric McCormack does a spot on Freddie Mercury!
October 19th, 2018 under Freddie Mercury, NBC. [ Comments: none ]

Yesterday on Will & Grace, we got a quick glimpse of Eric McCormack doing a Freddie Mercury impression. After the episode ended, he posted a behind-the-scenes video of him performing Queen’s We Are the Champions for the audience.

Forget Rami Maleck, McCormack should have played the singing legend in Bohemian Rhapsody. I could totally see Mercury’s moves through the actor. Did you see it too?

What is, how well do you know Queen?
September 25th, 2018 under Freddie Mercury, Jeopardy. [ Comments: none ]

Today, on Jeopardy they wanted to see how well the contestants know the Freddie Mercury and Queen. Two out of three of them do not the band as well as Vincent. Which is sad because they were easy questions. But who cares because it is fun they were represented!

Rami Malek is not helping Bohemian Rhapsody’s case
September 13th, 2018 under Freddie Mercury. [ Comments: 5 ]

Ever since I saw the video for Queen’s Radio Gaga, I have been a fan of Freddie Mercury. You could just tell there was something remarkable about him. And there was.

Since my father used to play Santa Claus for children with AIDS, I became an AIDS activist. So when Mercury revealed that he had the disease, I knew that he was going to change the face of HIV. Not only would be remembered for being one of the best rockers from the last century, but he would also be known as a man who helped to normalize the persona of HIV/AIDS.

Therefore, if you are going to do a movie about him. You need to focus on it. But it is obvious from the trailer and the synopsis, that is not the case. At least it seems that way to be people who are passionate about him. But since we have not seen the movie, we are just assuming that to be the case.

Rami Malek did an interview with Attitude and he denies that. Actually what he said is:

“First, let me say that I don’t think the film shies away from his sexuality or his all-consuming disease, which is obviously Aids.

“I don’t know how you could avoid any of that, or if anyone would ever want to. It’s a bit absurd that anyone’s judging this from a minute trailer.

“The film needed to approach it in a delicate manner. You can’t shy away from it. It was an important moment to have in the film, one that ultimately is very sad but also empowering in a way.

“It shows you just how resilient human beings can be and how much we rely on the strength of our friends and family to get us through tough times.

“This pandemic is still very much a horrific threat to so many people in the world. It exists as a reality for so many that I think it would be a shame not to address it.”

What the f*ckity f*ck? What is, “all-consuming disease, which is obviously AIDS, “approach it in a delicate manner” and “this pandemic is still very much a horrific threat to so many people.” He is 37 years old, so he should know more about HIV/AIDS than to say stupid things like that. He might play a brilliant man on TV, but he is not coming off as smart, to me, with comments like that.

Plus, it also sounds like they address it, but only in passing. I think if Mercury were still alive he would not be happy about it. He was a vocal icon who did not shy away from who he was. Unlike the band who think they are as important as he was. They are not. He was Queen.

Heathrow baggage handlers celebrate Freddie Mercury’s 72nd birthday
September 6th, 2018 under Freddie Mercury. [ Comments: none ]

Before Freddie Mercury hit it big with Queen, he worked as a baggage handler at Heathrow Airport. Yesterday, for what would have been his 72nd birthday, several workers from the London airport and British Airways dressed up like him. Not only that, they also sang and danced to his huge hit I Want to Break Free.

I do not want to break free from watching them do that. They should make it a daily thing because then people will not be as upset when their luggage takes forever to come out. Although, that could be why it is taking forever to come out.

Seriously, this is the perfect tribute to the late great singer and The Mercury Phoenix Trust, the charity set up in his honor.
