Rick Springfield made up Jessie from Jessie’s girl
September 24th, 2019 under AXS, Rick Springfield. [ Comments: none ]

Rick Springfield became an International sensation thanks to his song Jessie’s Girl in 1981. The song has become one that urban legends are made of. We want to know who is Jessie and more importantly who is his girlfriend that the singer wants to find a woman like that.

This Thursday at 8:30p on AXS’s Mix Tape, the Rocker gives us the true story behind the song. He says, “I started going to this stained glass place in Pasadena. And the reason I kept going was because there was this girl there that was burning hot and she had a boyfriend, his name was Gary, and she didn’t want anything to do with me. So I took my sexual angst home and wrote a song about her. I tried ‘Gary’s Girl,’ but it didn’t ring. I actually had this original lyric sheet and I changed it to ‘Randy’s Girl.’ I’d actually started writing ‘Randy is a friend,’ and halfway through that line I thought you know what… no. So this name Jessie popped up in my head. I loved it, I went full tilt on the writing and recording thing.”

Now we know, Jessie is really Gary and Springfield did not get the girl. But he did he get a huge hit out of it. Good thing he didn’t believe in don’t talk to strangers because if he did, then he would not have met Gary and his girlfriend. Which means he would never have had this song and he never would have the career he has had. We would be like Rick Springfield who?

Next week on Mix Tape, Don McLean talks about the day the music died. In other words, what Buddy Holly meant to him.

The Greatest Show on Earth is coming to AXS
March 21st, 2019 under AXS. [ Comments: none ]

On May 21, 2017, we said goodbye to the longest running circus and May 27th, AXS TV will air Ringling Bros. And Barnum & Bailey Circus: The Final Farewell.

For the first time ever will be given a behind the scenes look at what made the Greatest Show on Earth as the participants prepare to say goodbye to each other and the show. It is as though we are actually there with them.

Even though it has been nearly two years since they closed and I have not been to the circus since I was a kid, I still get sad thinking it is no longer around. That feeling you got walking into the three-ring circus can never be replicated. But this will come pretty gosh darn close.

Therefore, go buy a bag of shelled peanuts and get ready to enjoy the clowns all over again. Hopefully, they won’t be too sad during this documentary.

That is exactly what AXS TV is doing on July 28th. Starting at 8a they will air 13 music specials that are so cool, you won’t need the air conditioner on that day.

A wide variety of musicians from Adult Contemporary to Country to pure Rock to Jessica Simpson. A little something for everyone. Even the Grinch and Ebenezer Scrooge could fake some holiday joy!

So mark your calendars because you do not want to miss this day of rockin’ concerts. That and because by July 29th, it will be time to go shopping for the season since it starts earlier and earlier every year.

William Shatner becoming a standup comedian?
December 20th, 2016 under AXS, William Shatner. [ Comments: none ]

We have seen William Shatner try his hand at comedy over the years, but we have never seen him actually do standup comedy. That is all going to change because Page Six is reporting he is going to do it for AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live on January 19th.
I think he is going to be hysterical because he has such a dry sense of humor and great timing. But then again, that could be because he takes pauses between words and that makes him funnier.
Either way, I am looking forward to his comedy debut. Heck, if he does he really good job, maybe he has a new career in his future. He’s only 85 years young, and you are never too old to start something new. Could you imagine him touring the circuit or getting his own comedy special? I would tune in for that even if I find myself asking Scotty to beam me up half way through.

What if Elvis Lives?
August 16th, 2016 under AXS, Elvis Presley. [ Comments: none ]

39 years ago today, Elvis Presley died, but what if he didn’t? That is what the AXS TV telemovie Elvis Lives is going to look at tonight at 9p.
On August 16, 1977, the world was shocked when Elvis Presley suddenly died. Because it was so sudden and he was very loved, people claimed to have seen him alive for many many years afterwards. Did he really die in that Graceland bathroom?
In this movie, a few weeks before Elvis (Jonathan Nation) “died”, his life was in a downward spiral. He just wanted to be back with Priscilla, his daughter Lisa and live a normal life. That was something he couldn’t do because he was the most famous person in the world. There was a way he could live on in secret and this is the theory on he did it.
That theory, is something you will learn when you watch this intriguing movie about Elvis’ final days as The King and his first few days as his new self.
