Avengers: Endgame did OK at the box office
April 28th, 2019 under Marvel Comics. [ Comments: none ]

A few weeks ago, I asked my friend, who camped out for a few of the Star Wars movies, what movie is going to break more records, Avengers: Endgame or Star Wars: Episode IX. Without hesitation, he said Avengers.

The weekend box office numbers are out now for the Marvel Comics Universe movie, and he was right. It made $350 domestically and $1.2 billion internationally. While that is very impressive, according to Box Office Mojo, it broke 20, yes 2-0, records including largest preview, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and combined weekend totals. The film made an average of $75,075 in 4,662 theaters.

I wonder if Disney wishes this was more like Avengers: Almost Endgame so that they could squeeze out on more sequel.

A lot of people went to see it, some multiple times, and I am not one of them. I still have to watch a bunch of previous movies in order to understand what is going on. Which hopefully by then, the theaters will be nearly empty as compared to being all full now.

Finally, how far does the movie have to go to be the #1 movie of all time domestically and internationally? Star Wars: The Force Awakens made $936,662,225 while Avatar made $2,787,965,087. So next weekend basically.

Have you seen it yet? Or am I the only one?

Rel and The Gifted were not gifted another season
April 18th, 2019 under Fox, Marvel Comics. [ Comments: none ]

While no show has officially been cancelled this season, the networks are starting to announce what shows will not be back in the fall. Fox got it started by not renewing Rel and The Gifted for another season. The news is no surprise because both shows did poorly in the ratings.

Lil Rel had this to say about the cancellation, “I want to thank all the loyal 2 million plus people that tuned in every week to my show… I’m so proud of what we did and it was a dream come true… I got a chance to not only create a show based off my material and some real life events I got to work and create magic with my friends… God is so good and I’m truly blessed… Thanks again for the huge opportunity and it’s on to the next one… I learned a lot and it’s still a huge accomplishment for me to pull this off… I wanted to make a dramatic comedy with heart and I did that… I know I made you proud Mom!!!!!! #REL”

There are reports that Marvel is going to shop The Gifted around, but I doubt anyone will want it. After 2 seasons of low ratings and no buzz, I cannot see anyone being like I want to blow money on it. It is no Lucifer, Brooklyn Nine-Nine or Designated Survivor.

It will be interesting to see what shows, if any, will be saved by someone else this year.

What happens when The Avengers’ cast tries to tell a story
April 9th, 2019 under Chris and Liam Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Don Cheadle, Jimmy Kimmel, Marvel Comics, Scarlett Johannsson. [ Comments: none ]

Jimmy Kimmel Live asked the cast of The Avengers cast to read a children’s story about Thanos. It started off nicely with Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans. Then they got to Wakanda and that was it. At that point, the story went to hell. Hopefully, the movie will have a better ending, but since it is called Endgame, I doubt it.

Captain Marvel made Kevin Smith cry
March 9th, 2019 under Kevin Smith, Marvel Comics. [ Comments: none ]

Kevin Smith has been through a lot in the last, you know like surviving a heart attack that should have killed him. Yet we never saw him shed a tear. That was until yesterday when he saw Captain Marvel and that made cry. Why?

He explained, “Just saw @captainmarvel. I am a blubbering mess. After a lifetime spent referencing the movies, the movies just referenced me! Many thanks to @MarvelStudios and to my friend @TheRealStanLee for the shout-out! But if I’m now part of the @Marvel Universe… Did I survive The Snap?”

I think we can all understand why he crying, I would cry too and it is not my party.

Hugh Jackman and Sir Patrick Stewart broke the same World Record!
February 20th, 2019 under Guinness World Records, Hugh Jackman, Marvel Comics, Sir Patrick Stewart/Sir Ian McKellen. [ Comments: none ]

Hugh Jackman and Sir Patrick Stewart are in the Guniess Book of World Records now and they are listed for the same thing. Are they in it for breaking the longest time tied to someone without breaking loose? Nope, but I like that.

They both have the longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero. How long have they been playing Wolverine and Professor X? They have been doing it for 16 years 228 days. Both actors started playing their characters in X-Men and ended it with Logan.

You know Jackman can end the tie if he would just agree to Deadpool vs Wolverine. Is it tempting him yet? I don’t think so because he has set his sites on breaking the longest marathon playing badminton, singles, record. He only has to do that for 25 hours, I think that is possible for Stewart!
