Do we need to bring back Six Feet Under?
December 10th, 2021 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Some shows have such a crappy ending that the network eventually orders a revival to make up for it, like Dexter. Then there are shows like Six Feer Under that have such a beautiful finale that the network should leave it alone. At least, they should have done that.

Variety is reporting that HBO and Alan Ball are in the very early talks of bringing back the series in some form of the way. It is in such early development; they don’t know if it will be a reboot or sequel.

To me, they need to leave well enough alone because they will never recreate that magic again. They can try, but how many times have you said a revival or a sequel is better than the original. Not that often, so why do it?

Where is Dorothy’s house when you need it?
February 10th, 2021 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

The Wizard of Oz is one of the rare classic movies that has stood the test of time. It is perfect as is and does not need to be remade or given a fresh take. That is my opinion. Sadly it is not that of New Line. According to Variety, they are working on a new version of Dorothy’s trip with the land of Oz.

“I am incredibly honored to join Temple Hill and New Line in bringing this beloved classic to the screen,” Nicole Kassell, who is directing the remake, said. “While the 1939 musical is part of my DNA, I am exhilarated and humbled by the responsibility of re-imagining such a legendary tale. The opportunity to examine the original themes — the quest for courage, love, wisdom and home — feels more timely and urgent than ever. These are profoundly iconic shoes to fill, and I am eager to dance alongside these heroes of my childhood as we pave a newly minted yellow brick road!”

Kassel has worked on Cold Case The Leftovers, Claws, Castle Rock, and Watchmen to name a few. Therefore, I envision her take to be dark, depressing, and violent. That will take away all the joy we got from the timeless film.

Am I the only one rooting for the Wicked Witch of the West to stop this movie before it is made?

Paramount is working on a new version of Little House on the Prairie
December 18th, 2020 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Back in 1974, television audiences fell in love with the Ingalls family. Ever since then, Little House on the Prairie has been airing nonstop in syndication on multiple channels. Therefore, it should make sense that someone would want to bring it back for today’s audience. That studio is Paramount.

According to Entertainment Weekly, it is in the beginning stages. However, I have no doubt that someone will pick up the beloved series. That is unless they majorly f*ck it up. I don’t think it is possible to mess up Laura Ingalls Wilder’s story. It is the perfect wholesomeness we all need now. Then again, they can CWify it. Imagine dark and brooding Half Pint and bitchy Nellie Olesen.

Well, the latter would be the same. On that note, EW says that Alison Arngrim is more than willing to play her TV mother, Mrs. Oleson.

That is one role filled, Trevor Donovan made a case for another one the day before the announcement. “I’m holding out for the Little House on the Prairie reboot/revival. Got my eyes set on that Charles Ingalls role. Crossed fingers,” the actor wrote. He would be perfect as the patriarch.

Would you watch a 2020 take on the 1870s?

Fantasy Island is anything but a fantasy
November 11th, 2019 under Blumhouse, Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: 1 ]

Why does every remake have to be f*cked up psychological thriller these days? Case in point the remake of the positive Fantasy Island is now a dark thriller. Someone give the writers of movies today some antidepressants because this depressing sh!t needs to stop. Between Joker, The Invisible Man and this, Hollywood needs to lighten the f*ck up. Why can’t we have happy things? What is so wrong with that?

I thought my love life was sad, but seeing this on Valentine’s Day would be even sadder. Screw you Blumhouse.

Steve Guttenberg says a new Police Academy is in the works
September 3rd, 2018 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

From 1984-1994, we got seven Police Academy movies. Since then, we have not gotten a single one. Sounds like that is about to change. When Steve Guttenberg was asked if he was making another Police Academy movie, he told them, “the next Police Academy is coming, no details yet, but it is in a gift bag being readied!”

I hope it happens because we need more goofy movies like this franchise that also spawned an animated and a live-action series. Sadly though, Bubba Smith, Andrew Rubin and David Graf will not be part of the new movie. They have all passed away since the last movie came out.
