March 14th, 2008 under Chuck Lorre, Interviews

The Big Bang Theory is the first show back on the air with all-new episodes written after the strike this Monday at 8p. Before the brilliant show makes its 8p debut Simon Helberg aka Howard Wolowitz answered a few questions I had about Chuck Lorre’s latest gem:

SOW: You Play Howard so well, what or who was your inspiration for the role?
SH: Wolowitz is somewhere between James Bond and Alec Baldwin.

SOW: Your character is such a Casanova and he even lost his virginity earlier in the season, are there any more girls in your future on the show?
SH: Unfortunately for now, the only girl you’ll be seeing in Wolowitz’s life is his mother.

SOW: Is the attire you wear on the show what you wear in your real life? Do you keep the clothes? Especially your Halloween costumes?
SH: I don’t get to keep the clothes and it’s pretty far from what I wear in my real life. The turtleneck is really something to be reckoned with.

SOW: What has been your favorite episode yet?
SH: My favorite episode was the one where Raj gets drunk & is able to speak to women. You got to really see how the 4 guys deal with each other– how we can screw each other at the
same time as we’re trying to help each other.

SOW: What type of chemistry is there between the cast?
SH: Honestly, it’s like we’ve known each other forever. We spend time outside of the show together and it’s really helpful to be on the same page as people when you’re working with them—we have a shorthand and I think that makes the quality of the show that much better.

SOW
: Do you feel pressure being the first show back with new episodes written since the strike?
SH: No, because I have such confidence in the quality of these episodes. They’ve gotten better and in some ways, the Strike has allowed us to mature. When we come back, I think we’re going to be strong.

SOW: So what’s coming up for the rest of the season?
SH: In our first episode back (3/17) the guys and I figure out a way of rigging mechanical devices through my computer so that people from halfway across the world can turn on our appliances like the coffee-maker or stereo and lamp. They do it just simply because they can. The following week’s episode (3/24) is based on a lie that Sheldon tells Penny and which Leonard is uncomfortable with, so he builds a mountain of lies to cover-up the initial lie. It’s really funny. And, in the episode we just shot (airing on 3/31), all I’ll say is that you’ll finally get to see the inside of Wolowitz’s bedroom.

SOW: When you signed on for The Big Bang Theory did you know it was going to be the hit it is?
SH: No, no, no. You can’t tell. Ever. There was a moment when we were shooting the pilot and I heard the laughter from the audience and I thought, “Ok, this could be something big.” You’re always living in a constant state of insecurity, but it’s very nice to be on a show that people like.

SOW: Some of the other shows you have been on like Joey and Studio 60 sadly did not get a second season, how does it feel to have a show renewed early for one?
SH: It’s unbelievable. It’s like a bonus. Working is a bonus, working on something you love is a bonus and getting to do it for a long time is the ultimate.

SOW: So How I Met Your Mother got your time slot and Britney Spears…what will The Big Bang Theory do counteract that?
SH: Well, nothing violent. Maybe Avril Lavigne? Or Jamie Lynn Spears? Maybe we’ll try to get her child’s birth live on our show (laughs).

OMG! Simon Helberg is even funnier than his character and Howard Wolowitz is beyond freaking hysterical! To see Simon Helberg in even more laugh riot stuff check him out in Derek & Simon: The Show!
But back to The Big Bang Theory if you have never seen it, now is the time to start. The show will be back for 9 all-new episodes starting this Monday at 8p and it sincerely is a great fun show that everyone enjoys. I can’t tell you how many people who rarely watch or who hate sitcoms that actually love this show and are completely addicted!
So tune in to The Big Bang Theory this Monday on CBS at 8p for some intellectual humor that everyone can get!!!
