[ # ] Tony Danza will play another Tony!
June 19th, 2017 under Netflix, Taxi

Tony Danza has starred in several television series as a character named Tony like Taxi, Who’s the Boss?, Hudson Street, The Tony Danza Show and will once again be known as such on Netflix’s new series The Good Cop that was announced today. This time the boxer/taxi driver/baseball player/manny/detective/sports writer will be known as Tony Sr.

According to Netflix’s press release, it is about “a disgraced, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, Tony Jr., an earnest, obsessively honest NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules. This ‘odd couple’ become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. offers his overly-cautious son blunt, street-wise advice on everything from handling suspects to handling women.” No word who will be playing his son, but I am rooting for Josh Peck.

The 10 episode police show is created by Andy Breckman, the man who brought us Monk. I have been missing a show as brilliant as Monk and Tony Danza playing a Tony, so I am beyond excited for The Good Cop.

Now can we discuss why Tony Danza has played a Tony, not once, not twice, not thrice, not but five times on television? This is something that keeps me up late at night as I watch my all-time favorite show Taxi for the millionth time. Is it in his contract? Does he only respond to Tony? Does he want a Tony, so he thinks if he is known as Tony he will win one? He just likes his name? What do you think is the reason?
