Now that Showtime's Californication ended its season a few weeks ago, Red Hot Chili Peppers is suing them for using the title of 1999 album as the title of their show according to Billboard.
The suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court today (Nov. 19), sets out claims under federal trademark law and state unfair competition law. The complaint alleges that the composition entitled "Californication" and the album achieved "extraordinary critical and commercial recognition."
"'Californication' is the signature CD, video and song of the band's career," band frontman Anthony Kiedis said in a statement. "For some TV show to come along and steal our identity is not right."
Um, the album came out 8 years ago why are they still clinging on to it. I bet the show has helped let their younger fans know about the CD when they are doing searches for the show and that has led to increased sales for the CD. This isn't the first band to sue a show for using its title, there was Living Colour who sued Fox's In Living Color and lost while Supernova was successful in suing CBS's Rockstar: Supernova.
BTW I have been so over Red Hot Chili Peppers since Californication, and since Anthony Kiedis went from long haired rocker to Big Bang Theory type nerd. Have you seen him recently?
