[ # ] Colin Donnell teases what’s coming up on Chicago Med
March 29th, 2016 under Dick Wolf

Chicago Med has been off the air for over a month and tonight at 9p it is back on NBC with an all new episode. A week and a half ago, I attended press lunch with Colin Donnell and he revealed some of the things that are coming up for his character and the show.
Dr Connor Rhodes (Donnell) is the newest doctor at the hospital and the Trauma Surgeon’s past life has pretty much been a mystery, but that is all about to change. Donnell previewed tonight’s episode and said, “There’s a situation with a young kid who makes a terrible decision as far as drunk driving.” Then he added, “The way that his family ends up dealing with it, hits very close to home with Connor. Some things are revealed about his past which further explains, not only why he ended up running away, his relationship with his family.” Something Donnell says we will be getting more of in the upcoming weeks.
Not only we will get to know more about his personal life, but we will also delve more into his work one too. When we last off, Dr Rhodes agreed to do the Cardiothoracic Fellowship under Dr Downey (Gregg Henry) who is battling terminal cancer. His cancer, which is progressing, will play a part in their relationship as the season goes on. One Donnell describes as, “Downey has become a very important figure in Connor’s life. In a lot of ways, he has sort of replaced his own father. He has been searching for someone to give him the vote of confidence he is looking for.” Something I am sure he will be getting plenty of as Rhodes performs more and more heart surgeries with his mentor.
When it comes to how Rhodes is going to be able to do his two fellowships for both Trauma and Cardiac Surgery, he is in as much of the dark as we are. With all of that on his plate, it sounds like it is going to start affecting his mental state. So much so, he wants to keep our eyes out for, “a wonderful scene between Rhodes and Halstead, that I won’t spoil anything about, but it has been one of my favorite scenes that we have done so far. A culmination of a lot of stuff that has been happened throughout the season.”
What that means? We will just have to keep tuning in tonight and every Tuesday at 9p to find out on the best medical drama since ER. That and to watch Rhodes grow as a Cardiac and Trauma Surgeon at Chicago Med and also as a man.
