[ # ] Jerry Lewis thinks he is still worth $20,000 to talk to
August 22nd, 2007 under Unadmirable People

Jerry Lewis fired his publicist because he told an interviewer that he would have to pay $20,000 to do an hour long interview with according to Norm Clarke.

Freelance writer Steve Friess said he was informed by Lewis’ camp on Monday that Lewis was appalled by publicist Rick Saphire’s actions. Friess said he was told the fee was something Lewis set up several years ago for international media because he was trying to shrink the number of interview requests he receives. The fee never was intended for mainstream U.S. media, Friess was told.

When they found out the interviewer was doing an interview for American trade the fee was dropped. But I have to wonder why Jerry Lewis would charge the International media because The French are the only ones who still think he is funny and worthy. And seriously an interview with Jerry Lewis is not even worth $20 let alone $20,000.

If you look around a little bit, you’ll see that not only the French think Jerry Lewis funny and worthy. He’s still loved and appreciated, and he deserves to be. Even if you personally dislike him, the man is a living legend.

The Above Story is a LIE!

PRLog (Press Release) – Sep 28, 2008 – When freelance writer Steve Friess reported in 2007 that Jerry Lewis had “fired” his “publicist” Rick Saphire for trying to charge Newsweek $20,000 for an interview with Lewis, Bloggers around the world jumped to the erroneous conclusion that the story was accurate. Many of hem issued derogatory columns about Mr. Saphire and his company. Since it has become apparent that nearly every element of the freelancers accusations were false, the bloggers have pulled down their stories, and some have issued apologies.

The facts are as follows: Rick Saphire never had any discussions with Newsweek regarding any such interview. The freelancer was requesting a story that he would try to sell, and would also publish on his own web site. Additionally, an audio version of the interview was to be aired on Sirius Satellite Radio. Because the freelancer requested that the interview be published within days of the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon, Saphire clearly directed the freelancer to take his request to the MDA. Additionally, Rick Saphire was never Jerry Lewis’ publicist, and was never in Jerry Lewis’ employ. Conversely, Saphire often secured money for Jerry Lewis to appear on TV, and to give paid interviews in the USA and abroad.

Following the controversy created by Steve Friess’ unethical posting photos of portions of Saphire’s private business correspondences on his blog, attorneys for Saphire and Lewis agreed, in writing, that Saphire would continue to present the comedy star with business opportunities, as in the past.

Blogger Scott Marks has recently published a conciliatory article on his popular Emulsion Compulsion website.

Rick Saphire Celebrity Management represents Gary Lewis and the Playboys, headed by the Rock n Roll legend, and eldest son of Jerry Lewis, Gary Lewis.
