TBS is continuing their Very Funny slogan with Sullivan & Son tonight at 10p.
Steve Byrne plays a NYC lawyer who comes back home to Pittsburgh for a visit and winds up buying his father’s bar and staying. Now he has to deal with Irish dad (Dan Lauria), his controlling Korean mom (Jodi Long) who his dad met in Vietnam and his younger sister (Vivian Bang) who is happy her big bro is back to take the pressure off of her. But it isn’t only his family he has to deal with, he also the regulars to contend with. Carol (Christine Ebersole) has done everything at the bar and I do mean everything. Owen (Owen Benjamin) who will help Steve out with the bar. And then there is Hank (Brian Doyle-Murray) who has been going to the bar since it opened and he doesn’t like all the changes that has happened to the neighborhood. In other words he is a huge racist and what he says makes you laugh even though it shouldn’t.
Steve will struggle trying to keep bar running, keep the customers happy and most importantly survive his family. All we have to do is struggle not to laugh too hard because this show is hilarious.
Maybe this is the show we’ve all been looking for in the overkill that is Tyler Perry on TBS. It’s definitely time for something new and I’m hoping that Sullivan and Sons is that something. I see that people have been saying that the way the show is put together is pretty sloppy but perhaps it will clean up its act in the next few episodes. There is hope however because Steve Byrne is one of the funniest guys to grace the stage. It’s about time since he’s been doing the standup thing for so long and I’ve seen plenty of his shows. I’m going to be at work so I have to wait until the next day to see it. So a Dish co-worker suggested the remote access app which will allow me to stream live TV or anything I’ve recorded to my Smartphone or iPad. It’s works great with the Sling Adapter and Hopper DVR I just got which makes it so easy to watch TV. So tonight on my train ride home I’m going to be hopefully laughing and hoping that TBS has produced a gem in the wasteland that is TV in 2012.
Sullivan & Son is stupid & extremely racist. Its not original at all. They called a guy in their bar a “sleeper cell” to be funny. Oh yes quite hilarious. I can just imagine how many muslum kids & adults are rolling on the floor laughing their asses off at the awesome & new “oh so hilarious” name they get called because some moron thought it would be funny after watching this show. Yes I understand racism is everywhere but if you’re flaunting it with every episode then Im pretty sure 1 of ur million fans who watch TV just might be influenced. Just a thought.
