Jimmy Kimmel Live’s security guard Veatrice Rice lost her battle with cancer and passed away from the disease yesterday. Veatrice was a tough as nails, foul mouthed woman who would make us laugh whenever she opened her mouth on the show which wasn’t that often so you it was special when she did! Recently I started calling people dumb a$$es thinking it was because of That ’70s Show, but it wasn’t that show that did that. It was Veatrice who helped to add that word to my vocabulary. So go ahead and call someone dumb a$$ today in her honor.
My prayers go out to her husband John and everyone at Jimmy Kimmel Live! Donations can be made in her honor to The American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or the Paralyzed Veterans of America at www.pva.org.
UPDATE: The producers of Jimmy Kimmel Live! posted video of some Veatrice Rice’s funniest bits on the show on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! YouTube channel! Enjoy the laughs in her honor, I think she woukld want us to. 59 was way too young die, but she will live on in these videos and in our memories.

OMG: we just saw the insert on the Live show and my wife and I just looked at each other and gasped and said “oh no” when we saw the 2009 RIP tag… we went and saw the show in early 2007 on the night The Kooks were there, and when I was in line, inside the theater … I saw Veatrice and I told her that I needed to use the restroom… she pointed me in the right direction downstairs, with her red flashlight, before we all walked upstairs into the live taping… I will cherish this interaction forever… the moment was very cool… Bless you Veatrice
I was shocked to see the tribute on the show on Thursday.
I was thinking just the other day why I hadn’t seen her on the show in the last week or so.
RIP Veatrice You will be missed.

I was stunned to hear about Veatrice, but wondered why she hadn’t been around the last week or so. The night she was hypnotized was my favorite skit, and of course, the Sarah Palin one as well. I* hope to see a occasional re-run of her skits and howlers! RIP We will remember you!

Seriously, it was sooooo funny when Veatrice would say stuff like “Shut the fuck up you cocksucking bitches” and then have it bleeped by the censors at ABC.
I was skimming thru channels and seen Veatrice so i was like hecks yeah veatrice is on im watching this, then i noticed it was a montage, and i knew something must of happened then it said RIP, i immediately became sad. She was a real person and we appreciated that. ill miss her on the show and the BUY MY BUTTER skits, she was mean to that lady and it was hilarious. Be at peace Veatrice, and im sorry to those that loved her.
I liked Veatrice best when she was on The Worst _____ Team on television when Guillermo and Frank would make no sense and then she would yell at them at the end. I attended the show in November 2007 and when I was lined up outside the theatre I saw her at the top of the stairs off to the left. I wish now I would have waved at her like I thought about doing. I’ll miss you Veatrice as you were a funny lady.
I was in shock when I saw that last night. She played such a cool role on the sketches . R.I.P. Veatrice. I feel bad abc’s website didn’t mantion anything.

Veatrice made my day every time I saw her. That smile said it all. I will miss her dearly.

I was wondering if something was wrong with her because she appeared to have lost a lot of weight lately and didn’t seem as peppy and then was gone for about a week. This is so sad and the saddest part of all is that abc and jimmy kimmel live could have done a better tribute for her. Also I hope Jimmy doesn’t make any ass cracking jokes about this loss. RIP Veatrice we all loved you and you will be dearly missed. The show will never be the same.

I just don’t know. For someone was a staple in Jimmy’s show, the 30 second tribute, almost seem comedic in some way. I have yet to see any other sources cosigning the death of this talented woman.

Looking for a better tribute for a person that MADE the show for me. Don’t think she can be replaced.
RIP Veatrice…I couln’t beleive it! I thought was some kind of a dark joke until I saw the RIP 1949-2009. Jimmy din’t show much emotion…That’s so foul!!!

Veatrice,
You can go back to being a black woman now. Thanks for the laughs.
I beg to differ from a comment about Jimmy’s lack of emotion. He was choking back tears before he showed her tribute.
The show must go on.
Veatrice will be missed by all who watched Jimmy’s show. I think he showed great emotion when he got choked up. It is a show and it must go on. She was a funny lady and I am quite sure she is just fine with her tribute from Jimmy. So quit being a Jack Ass as Mrs. Rice would tell you herself….lol

Maybe one nigiht you could do a tribute to Veatrice an use the whole show to show clips of her funniest moments!! If you annouced on what night it would air, I am sure your ratings would be really Great!

The way Veatrice put up with Uncle Frank, Guillermo, and the Butter Lady reminded me of Moe having to put up with Larry and Curly. It was funny watching her do skits with a straight face. She’ll be missed.
I just caught the end of the montage last night and like everyone else was caught off guard. She was the greatest and always made me laugh. Rest in peace Veatrice
VEATRICE!!!…..=[…i was too cought of guard, she made the show so funny with her cursing especially with the david backam one….hahahah she will be missed very much.
I only watched the Jimmy Kimmel show to see and hear Veatrice. Sorry to say I really was not paying attention to the skit when it was on (I had seen all of them) but when I saw her name and date of birth I was shocked . I wish I had given it my full attention hopefully skits of her especially when she is with Uncle Frank and Guillermo (sp) are sitting and talking will go up online .
I saw she had lost weight and her eyes did not seem right. I am so very sorry that she is gone and my condolences to her family and friends. Know she was one in a million.
i cant believe it! i caught the last few minutes of the skits last night. when i saw the dates i yelled “she died?” i didnt know she was ill. she was a true warrior. prayers and blessings to her family and cohorts.
I couldn’t believe it either! I am still in shock. After the tribute last night, I started googling trying to figure out what on earth happened and I couldn’t find anything until today. She was just so funny. I agree with the others…at first I thought it was some kind of joke, until I saw that Jimmy was holding back the tears and his voice was cracking. He wouldn’t have made it much longer if he had to continue talking. But like someone said, “the show must go on” and Veatrice would have wanted it that way.
RIP Veatrice, we will all miss you, the Jimmy Kimmel show will never be quite the same.

Veatrice was a great woman. The world will be a sadder place without her. Rest peacefully dear Veatrice.
I was shocked to hear that she had passed! I thought that she just might be off for a couple of weeks. She really was funny in her deadpan way and all the funnier as a foil to Guillermo and Uncle Frank. Jimmy Kimmel was holding back tears but the tribute seemed all too brief. She’ll be missed by most Kimmel fans, for sure.

I was half asleep when I noticed the montage of Veatrice’s skits but the last thing I thought was that is was because she had died. What a shock when I saw the range of dates of her life! My first thought was, 59 or 60 (my age) is too young to die. What happened? If a previous comment was true, that she smoked, what a shame. Condolences to her family.
This is way over the top!!! Veatrice was one of the freshest faces on late night television!! She was so natural you couldn’t tell if she was going by a script or just natural instincts. I am so sorry for her loss to her family, to the Kimmel show, and to all of us who may be counted among her many fans. RIP VEATRICE!!!
Jimmy was really choaked up and acurately said Veatrice wasn’t the kind of person who would want people to go on and on about her. I will miss her. A friend and I have been talking about going to see the show and it won’t be the same without her. Of course, I also want to be on the show, but that’s another story…
Please note that was very different from the way Jimmy delivers most of his lines in that sarcastic smirking deadpan. it may not seem like much emotion to many, but I could see it. The thing is that in Hollywood, the show must go on.
I also was very sadden to hear Jimmy Kimmel announce the passing of Veatrice Rice on his show. Jimmy’s voice was truly choked with emotion when he was trying to fight back the tears and hold it together. Veatrice was a very talented woman and the highlight of the show. She always made me laugh. Rest In Peace Veatrice! Prayers and blessings to her family.

I too was in total shock while watching the show, having no clue that she died..or had even been sick I do hope they will replay that episode again soon..and better yet, mention her on his next episodes. She was a very funny lady and it will be weird to not see her standing on the side next to Uncle Frank and Guillermo. My thoughts and prayers are with her family as well as jimmy and her family at the show…

We were in line for the show last May. My sister yelled, “We love you Veatrice.” I didn’t know much about her, but she gave us the cutest smile. I’m so sorry to hear about her loss. She had a great sense of humor.
I was gobsmacked to see the highlights video and then the ‘born and died’ dates, but it did explain some things so I was not totally surprised. Several months ago, she began wearing an anglo-style short wig, and my sister and I thought ‘why is she wearing that instead of her natural style?’ and she did look skinnier and older recently. So, after the news I realized the wig was because of chemotherapy most likely. Like most black ladies, she was harder to guess the age, since ‘black don’t crack’ as they say. She had only been doing the bits for a couple years, right? My sis actually wondered if the illness was WHY they added her, as a way of giving her more to do and distract herself from what was occurring in her life lately. I don’t know about that, but it probably did make them give her even more airtime when they heard of it. R.I. P. MRS. V, and my condolences to her family, especially the dear husband that was in a skit with her.
Veatrice was a very funny lady and will certainly be missed!

Veatrice is to be all the more admired and appreciated for her continued appearances on the JK show while apparently going through a course of cancer treatments. I know - first hand - how much determination it takes (ten courses of chemo). I am proud of the producers of the program and JK himself for allowing her to continue to cheer up all the rest of us while she easily could have given up and stayed in bed. My admiration goes out to her family of supporters who allowed Veatrice to share her interminable wit with all of us late night viewers.

RIP Veatrice, you will be remembered by friends from Singapore
Dear Mr. Rice, family and friends of Veatrice, JK, and all the people of JKL, I express my deepest sympathy at the loss of dear Veatrice. Veatrice was obviously loved by many. She was unique. Veatrice, our TV friend, you will be missed very much. Till we meet again!
I was totally shocked to see at the end of the show Veatrice had passed. She was a talneted, natural comedian! The show won’t be the same without her. I still look for her with Uncle Frank and Guillermo. The show is just not the same with out her whit. My deepest condolences to her family, friends, and the people on the show. I will miss you Veatrice, you were one of a kind. Great Lady! I miss you every nite. A show dedicated to her would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for sharing your taltent and being so funny.
