Jackie Chan is very close to teaching Jaden Smith how to wax on wax off in the new Karate Kid movie according to The Hollywood Reporter. While I think his casting is a good move, I stilll think the movie is a bad idea. It doesn't really sound like the original, so I just don't understand why they don't just do it as a karate movie instead of clinging on to the Karate Kid name.

Sounds like a total disaster. Jaden Smith was a whiney little kid you wanted to give to the aliens in “day the earth stood still” It sounds like a straight to DVD movie to me.
i HATED jaden smith in TDTESS. i wanted to punch him in the face from the second he came on screen. the kid can’t act. his snottiness and entitlist attitude absolutely reek in his scenes. he shouldn’t be acting and i’ll never pay to see him in a movie again. EVER.
If they have to do this, and they don’t, Ken Watanabe would be wayyyy better. But spawn of Will-Jada can go straight back to hell. He’s the worst thing to happen to any movie. If they had given GORT as much screen time as that weepy little turd TDTESS might have been slightly more interesting.
