SyFy (formerly Sc iFi) is updating the cult movie and it spinoff TV series, Alien Nation for the new millennium according to Variety. Tim Minear, who worked on Angel and Firefly, is developing the newest version of the franchise that will take place 20 years after the Aliens landed in the Pacific Northwest.
By the time the show begins, some time in the 2020s, the alien population has multiplied from a few thousand to 3.5 million. And much of the “newcomers” live their own segregated existence, in what Minear compares to the North African ghettos in France.
“You can take (the original ‘Alien Nation’) a step forward and really do a show that encompasses the clash of civilizations, and the idea of a ghettoized minority,” he said. “You can touch on racism, terrorism, assimilation, immigration. And there’s room for satire.”
If the new show is anything like the one that aired for Fox, I really hope Tim Minear creates a show that SyFy winds up picking up because I loved that show so much! Plus I like that they are not remaking it, but updating it. I am so sick of remakes and thankfully that is not the road that they are going down!
Last week there was story from Global Associated News was heard all over the world reporting that the Earth Girls Are Easy star Jeff Goldblum had fallen 60′ to his death in New Zealand. His publicist immediately squashed the rumor with a statement saying The Fly did not die and he was still alive. That wasn’t good enough to prove that he wasn’t going through The Big Chill, so he made an appearance on Comedy Central’s Colbert Nation to prove that he would still be around to light fireworks on Independence Day. But by the end of his appearance he accepted the fact that he had gone to the big Jurassic Park in the sky.
Seriously if Jeff Goldblum did more funny stuff like that, I would actually watch his movies and TV shows. So on that note, don’t forget to watch him on USA’s Law & Order: Criminal Intent every Sunday at 9p for his final episodes since he is no longer with us. Oh and he is also filming Morning Glory with Diane Keaton who almost joined him yesterday after an on-set accident.
On a non-Jeff Goldblum note, Stephen Colbert is such a freaking genius!!! How brilliant was that bit?
Finally if you see any stories from Global Associated News about a death of a celebrity dying in some horrific way, don’t believe it because the site allows you to create fakes news stories.

Just like when his former-father-in-law Elvis Presley died almost 32 years ago, people are now claiming that they have seen Michael Jackson alive and well according to The Sun. It was inevitable that The King of Pop would have the same effect as The King by leaving us too soon and that their fans would still see them even though they are gone. Unlike when Elvis died we are now living in the computer age, so you have sites like Michael Jackson Sighting posting the above picture that they claim was taken on June 25th. And then there are sites like Michael Jackson Death Hoax with all these theories that he faked his death. One site says he is in Eastern Europe while another says he was seen heading down to Mexico. I just love all these conspiracy theories. Let’s be real if Michael Jackson was really still alive, I don’t think the most popular man in the world with that face could be in hiding for long. But hey whatever gets his fan through this. I just can’t wait for all the tabs like The Globe to start publishing MJ sightings. Does anyone remember the last time we saw Elvis? Maybe they are hanging together after all Michael Jackson was married to his daughter Lisa Marie Presley for a while?
The international trailer for Inglourious Basterds was just released and OMG it is so much better than the one we have been seeing here in The States. The new one has a little more humor and a faster pace to it. Doesn’t this trailer have more of the Quentin Tarantino feel than the other one? Plus as much as I love Brad Pitt, the other actors like Eli Roth, Daniel Bruhl, Til Schweiger and Mélanie Laurent are featured a more in this one.
I can’t believe I am saying this, but I actually want to see the movie more now when it comes out on August 21st than I did before.
Mariah Carey dressed as two different men in her new video Obsessed for some reason and you know what she actually looks good as a boy. Seriously doesn't the transformation turn the 39 year female singer into a 21 year old male rapper? Now she knows the secret to look younger than her husband Nick Cannon…dress as man.
The Guardian is reporting that Simon Cowell was offered somewhere between $100-$144 million to stay on American Idol for season 10 and I don't think in these economic times anyone is worth that amount of money.
A source close to Fuller says that Cowell has already been offered three to four times the $36m he was paid for American Idol in 2008 – but then, he is the most important person on the show and the series makes $900m a year and attracts audiences of 25 million. The point is that Cowell makes nothing more than this admittedly large performance fee and that's the gap the Green deal hopes to fill.
While I understand that Idol brings in $900 million a year, Fox affils are laying off people left and right and maybe if Fox put some of the money back into the company and not into Simon Cowell's pocket more people would still have their jobs and not collecting unemployment.
Don't get me wrong, I love Simon and I want to keep on the show but is anyone worth that amount of money? Do you think he is worth over $100 million to keep him on American Idol?
