We need to #RethinkAging celebrities!
February 23rd, 2023 under Marla Gibbs, Star Trek. [ Comments: none ]

2023 has been good for celebrities over 65. We saw Dick Van Dyke, 97, on The Masked Singer. Lily Tomlin, 83, Jane Fonda, 85, Rita Moreno, 91, and Sally Field, 76, starring in 80 for Brady. Mel Brooks, 96, is finally giving us History of the World: Part II on Hulu next month. Fran Drescher, 65, is the SAG President. And the list goes on.

However, more needs to be done. And Marla Gibbs, 91, Norman Lear, 100, and George Takei, 85, teamed up with Hollywood, Health & Society, and they want you to #RethinkAging.

They might be older, but they are not out. We can learn from them because they know what they are doing and experienced life in a way a no 25-year-old could ever understand.

Plus, they have a built-in fanbase.

So instead of going with a no-name, go with a name we already know and love.

‘Oh my!’ George Takei’s catchphrase is not from Star Trek.
December 2nd, 2022 under Graham Norton, Howard Stern, Star Trek. [ Comments: none ]

Here is your latest Mandela Effect explained.

Did you think the catchphrase “Oh my” is from Star Trek? Well, it is not. Nope. He never said that on the show.

But we know the actor has uttered those two words. So what is going on?

Today on The Graham Norton Show, the beloved actor explained how it happened. Many years ago, he was invited to appear on Howard Stern’s radio show. However, he didn’t know who the shock was at the time.

So Sulu arrives at the radio show offices, and they have a radio on. He said to his publicist that the show they have on is vile and disgusting. And she told him that is Howard Stern.

Then he was ushered in, and the first thing that Stern said to Takei was, “You have a deep voice. A voice like that must have a big dong below?” To which the legend asked, “Are we on the air?” When the shock jock told him they were, all he could say was, you guessed it, “Oh my!”

And the rest is history, thanks to Stern playing to two words repeatedly on his show.

Happy Star Trek Day, here’s Picard reunited with some old friends!

Today is Star Trek Day, and Paramount+ has a present for you. They released a teaser for the third and final season of Picard.

In case you hadn’t heard, this season Sir Patrick Stewart will be joined by his old co-stars from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Jeri Ryan, and Michelle Hurd.

In this preview, we are getting to see them together again. And I know that is making Trekkies all over the world happy.

It is a perfect sendoff for the legendary characters, and we can witness their final frontier starting on February 16th. I hope the fans can wait that long. Not that they have a choice, but still.

Star Trek: Picard will be reunited with some old friends for season 3
April 5th, 2022 under LeVar Burton, Sir Patrick Stewart/Sir Ian McKellen, Star Trek. [ Comments: none ]

Paramount+ had some big news to share on First Contact Day (in exactly 41 years from today, humans will make contact with Vulcans for the first time) about Star Trek: Picard’s third season, and it is out of this world exciting.

Patrick Stewart will be joined by his Star Trek: The Next Generation co-stars, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner.

“I remember watching the premiere of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ almost 34 years ago with my father like it was yesterday. It was the spark that ignited my love for science fiction,” said Terry Matalas, season three showrunner and executive producer. “So, it’s most fitting that the story of Jean-Luc Picard ends honoring the beginning, with his dearest and most loyal friends from the U.S.S. Enterprise. It would be an understatement to say that giving these characters a proper send-off is an honor. The entire STAR TREK: PICARD team and I can’t wait for fans to experience this final, high-stakes, starship-bound adventure in season three!”

I know this news is huge because I sent it to my Trekkie friend, and he told me he needed to be alone with his Enterprise for a little bit. I could hear in his voice he was choked up about hearing that The Next Generation cast are coming together with Picard.

S2 of Star Trek: Picard is streaming now on Paramount+, with new episodes debuting every Thursday.

A tale of two Captain Kirks
March 16th, 2022 under Star Trek, William Shatner. [ Comments: none ]

A few months ago, when William Shatner boldly went where few men of have gone (Space) before, he returned home via a way that man goes all the time (on a plane). On that latter trip, he sat next to someone whose life would change shortly afterward and the two of them have a connection that only one other person can claim.

What the hell am I saying? Yesterday, Paramount+ announced that Paul Wesley is going to play Captain Kirk in the second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. After the announcement, Welsey shared a photo of himself with the Shat and shared the story behind it.

I am deeply humbled and still a little startled to have been given the honor of playing the inimitable James T Kirk. Ever since I was a kid, I have been awed by the imaginative world Gene Roddenberry created.

Recently, I boarded a flight to LA to discover that the man in the empty seat beside me was the one and only William Shatner, having himself just returned from space. I could barely put two words together but ultimately I managed to say hello and we chatted.

I’m not one who usually believes in fate but this was more than a coincidence.
And of course I had to get a picture.

So thanks Mr. Shatner for the good company. And for seating us together, my thanks to the great bird in the sky. Can’t wait for all of you to see our Captain Kirk on your screens.

As soon as the original James Tiberias Kirk heard about the casting, he had a message for his new friend, “Keep my ship and crew safe, Captain! 😉 Congratulations!”

I can’t wait to see these two become fast buddies (especially if Wesley offers him some of the Bourbon that he created with Ian Somerhalder) like Zachary Quinto was with the late Leonard Nimoy.
