Paul Karslake has done it again. This time the man whose painting was Johnny Depp's inspiration for Pirates of the Caribbean has captured Heath Ledger's Joker. His painting is as haunting as Heath Ledger's portrayal in The Dark Knight.
Well done once again Paul!!!

Paul Karslake’s The Last Supper with Ronnie Wood
July 23rd, 2008 under Paul Karslake. [ Comments: 1 ]

Paul Karslake has done it again with this beautiful painting of The Last Supper with legendary musicians. Immortalizing The Rolling Stones and the greats that are no longer with us in a way that has never been done before.
For some fun, see how many of the music giants you can name in this portrait and can you spot the hidden messages in the food and in the drinks! For starters that is Stevie Ray Vaughn's guitar in the forefront, let me know what else you see in the fascinating painting!!!
For those of you unfamiliar with Paul Karslake, he is the artist who painted the painting of Keith Richards as a Pirate that inspired Johnny Depp for his role in Pirates of the Caribbean. I am just in awe of his work.
The original The Last Supper is 7' x 5', but if you are interested in purchasing a print you can contact Paul Karslake via his website!
BTW this painting was finished before Ronnie Wood entered rehab not one, but twice and is rumored to have cheated on Paul's sister with an 18 year old Russian girl. Guess Paul really does know his subjects!

Artist Paul Karslake on his painting that inspired Jack Sparrow
March 20th, 2007 under Johnny Depp, Paul Karslake, Pirates of the Caribbean, Rolling Stones. [ Comments: none ]

As many of you know Johnny Depp got the inspiration for Pirates of the Caribbean's Jack Sparrow from a painting he saw of Keith Richards by Paul Karslake. Karslake is the brother-in-law of Rolling Stones Ronnie Wood, and he is also an extremely talented painter.

When you look at that picture now, you can totally see Jack Sparrow and where Johnny Depp got his character from. So I asked Karslake what it was like to have created the painting that inspired Jack Sparrow and he had this say, "Having a character in a film as enormous as 'pirates' based on a painting created by me is just about the most fantastic compliment an artist can get, it has made me so much more confident as an artist and injected me with enthusiasm in what can be a very thankless and tough career."

A career that is made up of some of the most beautiful paintings I have ever seen of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Twiggy and Robert Deniro to name a few. I forgot what classic beauty was all about until I saw his art. He also captured the essence of some of the most meaningful people of the 20th Century in a way I have never seen before. So check out his amazing talent at the Artisan Galleries website! I promise you will be as impressed as much as Johnny Depp and I are of his work!

The portrait that inspired Jack Sparrow
October 30th, 2006 under Paul Karslake, Pirates of the Caribbean. [ Comments: none ]

A portrait of Keith Richards which inspired Johnny Depp’s character in Pirates of the Caribbean will be unveiled to the public today. The two-metre tall canvas depicts the Rolling Stones guitarist as a swashbuckling pirate complete with cutlass. It was painted by artist Paul Karslake, the brother-in-law of Richards’ bandmate Ronnie Wood, and was seen by Depp. It goes on display at London’s Artisan Gallery.

OMG that really looks like Jack Sparrow, and now it makes more sense why Johnny Depp was so insistent that Keith Richards play his dad!
