Weird Al Yankovic has been teasing a biopic for over a decade, and it is finally streaming on the Roku Channel for free.
Since Weird Al is known for parodying songs, it would make sense that he would parody his own life story. How does he do that in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story? I want to tell you, but it is better you experience it as it happens.
I can tell you it starts out with young Al, whose father disapproves of who he is. So, when he is old enough, he leaves home and lives with a bunch of guys who encourage him and his music.
He rewrites My Sharona to My Bologna and sends a copy of it to Dr. Demento (Rainn Wilson), a popular radio DJ. Dr. Demento and his fans love it so much that it becomes an instant hit. Therefore, Weird Al tries to get a record contract from Tony (some weird unknown actor) and Ben Scotti (Will Forte). However, they turn him down.
Eventually, he is accepted as a musician, and he is an instant hit. But then his world comes crashing down when he accidentally does drugs and dates Madonna (Evan Rachel Wood) on purpose.
Much like his real life.
Well, the only thing that is like his real life is his songs are in it, and all of his friends who have cameos in the movie, like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Conan O’Brien, Emo Phillips, Josh Groban, and Jack Black. The latter should star in a film about the person whom he plays in this movie.
I know this review is pretty vague, but the movie starring Daniel Radcliffe needs to be enjoyed with as little spoilers as possible. It is just silly fun! And we always need to make more time for stupid fun. Plus, the price is right!
The first trailer is out for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, and the biopic is not what I expected. We knew it was loosely based on the singer’s life. But the Roku film starring Daniel Radcliffe in the title role goes in a direction like Weird Al’s song. Like it sounds the same as the original, but it is a parody of what we know.
In real life, Yankovic is squeaky clean. In the movie, “From a conventional upbringing where playing the accordion was a sin, Al rebelled and made his dream of changing the words to world-renowned songs come true. An instant success and sex symbol, Al lives an excessive lifestyle and pursues an infamous romance that nearly destroys him.”
I don’t know what to make of it, but I know I will be watching it on November 4th. Will you be singing along with me?
Weird: The Story of Al Yankovic is the most-anticipated film of the year. And today, we found out when it will debut on The Roku Channel. That date is November 4th. So mark your calendars because you don’t want to miss it.
I expect the telemovie to sweep the Emmys with Daniel Radcliffe walking away with Best Actor as the man himself. It would be a travesty if he and the movie did not win.
Quinta Brunson is having quite the 2022! First, her ABC show Abbott Elementary is a huge hit! So much so, she and the sitcom got Emmy nominations.
If that is not enough amazing news for the actress, here is even more. And this is her biggest accomplishment to date! Brunson will be playing Oprah Winfrey in Roku’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.
Do you know how many actors and actresses would do anything to play Lady O? And Brunson is actually doing it? What is left for her? I know, continue to make us laugh!
Weird Al Yankovic is on tour, and like many touring musicians, he tested positive for coronavirus.
“So… I’ve got COVID. Don’t worry, I’m fine – I’m vaxxed and double-boosted and the symptoms are very mild,” the singer wrote. “But of course this means I unfortunately need to cancel the next couple dates on my tour (Saginaw & Detroit). I’m deeply sorry – we will reschedule those shows ASAP.”
Hopefully, he will be better soon because my friends have tickets to his shows, and it is all about my friends.
