Tony Orlando and Dawn reunite for a Christmas Miracle
May 11th, 2018 under 70s, Reunions, Tony Orlando. [ Comments: none ]

Last month, ABBA announced that they are releasing new music together for the first time in 35 years. Yesterday. Tony Orlando and Dawn revealed they will be reuniting for a Christmas concert in Illinois on December 11th. It will be the first time in three years that Orlando, Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent Wilson will sing together.

At this rate, Disco will make like a Zombie and come back from the dead. That’s the way, uh-huh, uh-huh, I like it. Yes, I know that is a KC and the Sunshine Band song, but it works better than untie that yellow ribbon ’round the ole oak tree.

Mamma Mia! Get your boogie shoes on Dancing Queens cause ABBA is back!
April 27th, 2018 under 70s, ABBA. [ Comments: none ]

It is has been 35 years since ABBA silenced themselves, but the four of them have found their voices again. They broke the spectacular news on social media today by saying, “The decision to go ahead with the exciting ABBA avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence. We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did. And it was like time had stood still and that we only had been away on a short holiday.

“It resulted in two new songs. One of them, ‘I Still Have Faith in You,’ will be performed by our digital selves in a TV special produced by NBC and the BBC aimed for broadcasting in December. We may have come of age, but the song is new. And it feels good.”

In the words of their last hit, “Thank You for the Music” That and Gimme, Gimme, Gimme more. This Dancing Queen is willing to spend Money, Money, Money on their new tunes.

Heck if it does really well, maybe other Disco acts will ask us to Take a Chance on Me too. Am I the only person who loves Disco?

BTW I wonder if the sequel to Mamma Mia had something to with the four of them finally reuniting and working on new music.

Some of the Happy Days cast reunited to talk about the show
April 3rd, 2018 under 70s, Marion Ross, Reunions. [ Comments: none ]

Marion Ross, or as we know her as Mrs C, was on Today today to talk about her memoir My Days: Happy and Otherwise. In the book, she revealed some secrets about the show, and they wanted to talk to her to about it. But they did not want her to do it alone, so they brought on Anson Williams and Donny Most to surprise her. It has been 44 years since they became a family on TV, and they still act like one. To me, it is chemistry like that, which is why we are still talking about the show and watching it in syndication.

Back to the secrets. For the first few years of the show, the 89-year-old actress (Doesn’t she look amazing for her age?) and her TV husband, the late Tom Bosley, did not get along. She speculates that he wanted someone else to play her role and that is why he was resistant to her at first. As time went on, they grew to love each other like the couple we watch on our small screens.

She wasn’t the only one revealing behind the scenes secrets. Anson Williams shared with the host that they shot a pilot for the sitcom a year earlier and it did not go. Due to the success of the movie American Graffiti and Grease on Broadway, the network decided to give it a second go. There was only one problem, they were not sure if Williams and Ron Howard were too old to play their roles. Both actors had to re-audition for their roles as Potsie and Richie Cunningham respectively. As we know, they once again landed their parts.

What about Ralph Malph? Most says that his character was not in the original script. The actor says that he gave such a great audition for Potsie, they created Ralph Malph just for him.

Three things you never knew about the show you thought you knew everything about. I don’t know about you, but I love learning things like this.

What is Willy Wonka’s Mike Teevee on Jeopardy?
March 15th, 2018 under 70s, Game Show Network, Jeopardy. [ Comments: 1 ]

On Tuesday, Paris Themmen was on Jeopardy and he was the biggest question of the night. While his name might not sound familiar to you, most of us grew up with him. Back when he was several inches shorter and he had a little more hair on his head.

Back then, he was also obsessed about being on television, and a golden ticket was going to make his dream come true. Boy was he thrilled to pieces about it. You get where I am going with this? Themmen was in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and he played Mike Teevee the only American who got the golden ticket in beloved film.

Fast forward to this week and him being on the game show. Unless you are wannabe contestant who knows everything about ’70s movies or you follow Themmen on Twitter, you were never going to know he was on the show. Neither he nor Alex Trebeck mentioned his past. Which seems odd because you think that would be the first thing they would bring up. Unless they did not know?

Either way it is so cool to see Mike Teevee all grown up and on TV. Now that I know he lives in the same city as me, I am going to be on the look out for him because Willy Wonka is one of my all-time favorite movies.

When it comes to how he did? The Oompa Loompas came to get him and sang, “Oompa loompa doompety doo, I’ve got another puzzle for you, Oompa loompa doompeda dee, If you are wise you’ll listen to me, What do you get when you’re on TV, You get a second place finish, and sixty-eight hundred to take home.” And then he turned into a bunch of particles never to be seen again until the movie’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
