A few weeks ago Dancing with the Stars announced the Dance Duel, where the bottom two duel out in dance and the judges decide who stays. Last night Jaleel White was the second victim of the stupid new gimmick; and his partner Kym Johnson and him told Jimmy Kimmel how much they hate it and think that it is horrible.
I so agree with them because it gives the judges too much power and they keep they unknowns on the show and don’t let the people, who are keeping them employed, a say. I gave up the ABC reality show because I was sick of the judges biases and the Dance Duel confirms why I am no longer watching the show. Of the five contestants who are still competing, Melissa Gilbert is the only one we have heard of before the show and that is just sad. Seriously has anyone heard of that Disney guy who beat out Urkel yesterday? No. And will you hear from ever again after the show? Nope. And once the judges realize this is a show on television and not a real ballroom competition then maybe more stars will actually make it to the finals.
BTW I will start watching DWTS again when they replace the judges. Other shows have done it successfully and now it is time for ABC to do the same. I don’t think we will miss any of them when they are gone.
It used to be that every season there seemed to be a few contestants injured while doing Dancing with the Stars, but then it stopped for a while. That was until last week when Melissa Gilbert suffered a concussion and whiplash while performing on the show. And I guess her injuries restarted the curse because William Levy Tweeted yesterday, “Just Wanted to let u know that I injured my right ankle pretty bad during rehearsal.. MRI tomorrow. I’ll let u all know .. Love u all” The sexy model also Tweeted in Spanish that he hopes it isn’t a fracture. We won’t know the results of his MRI until tonight’s show because that is how ABC rolls.
So I guess we will find out tonight if Levy and Gilbert will have another twirl around the ballroom or if they are on the Disabled List.
BTW it looks like Jack Wagner and Sherri Shepard got out just in the nick of time.
Melissa Gilbert performed on Dancing with the Stars last night, but after she did her dance she left the ABC show to go to the hospital. Her absence was noted at the end of the show by Tom Bergeron who said, “She injured herself and as a precaution she’s gone to the hospital to get checked out.” A few hours would go by without knowing what the injury was, until Half-Pint Tweeted, “I’m alright. Mild concussion and whiplash. Very soon I will be safely home resting and being taken care of.” She did not say if she is hanging up her dancing shoes because of it, but she did have a message for her partner and her Knight in Shining Armour, “@MaksimC you are my champion. I adore you. @GavinDeGraw bless your heart for carrying me down those stairs!”
I am sure we will find out her fate (hopefully she will stay) on tonight’s Dancing with the Stars shortly before the show ends, but for now we are to guess if she will still be dancing and how she suffered the injuries. Who knew you could get whiplash from the Paso Doble?
Bad joke time – Since last night was Rock night, I guess you can say that gives new meaning to headbangers ball.
Ever since Dancing with the Stars started, it has been half up to the viewer to say who they want to go home except for the finale. Well that is about to change for the next four weeks starting on Tuesday. Last night during the elimination show Tom Bergeron announced, “We’ve gotten a lot of feedback from you, unhappy to see good dancers go. The bottom two couples will dance simultaneously for the judges, who will then decide who goes. This dance duel will give … one last chance for the best dancer to stay in the competition.” Then it will be up to the judges to say who they want to keep in the competition. So in other words our vote doesn’t count.
So now the judges still get 50% of the vote on Monday night with their scores, then we waste our time calling with our half to put two people in the bottom and finally the judges say who they want to stay. Well as witnessed with years past, they have their favorites and that is who they give their good scores to. Then there are the ones that don’t dance with Derek Hough and Mark Ballas and those stars get lower votes like the once that work with Lacey Schwimmer and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. So that means that once again another boring forgettable person will win the mirror ball trophy and the fan favorites will lose.
This is a show that is still on the air because of viewers and we should have the full vote, like American Idol and America’s Got Talent. This is not a show about the judges, because as we learned from The X Factor and Idol they are all replaceable and no one will miss them. Part of the reason why I gave up So You Think You Can Dance and The Sing-Off is because it was about the judges and they had the final say. My favorites were going home and I was left with no one to root for. So why watch if I don’t care about the people competing for the win.
Oh wait I just remembered I gave up Dancing with the Stars this fall because I didn’t like any of the “Stars” and I was sick of the judges over the top BS actions to make the show about them. Then when this season started and even though I liked a few of the names, I said I really don’t miss it and I am done watching. When I read about yesterday’s decision online, I immediately thought I am so freaking happy I am no longer watching the show. Dancing with the Stars is no longer about the viewer or the dancers or the stars, it is only about the judges. And you know what, I wouldn’t be surprised if the ratings start to drop even more than they already are because we the viewers want to count. When the show becomes about the judges, the viewers change the channel. Look at Idol, that is down. Look at SYTYCD that is reduced to one night a week this year. Those judges made the show about them and people got bored.
If you are going to have a reality competition show with a live results show, you need to make it about the people competing and give only the audience at home the ability to say who goes home. That is what works, not when it all about the judges and only them.
OK I feel better now that I have vented. What do you think of ABC’s decision to change things up?
Tonight on Dancing with the Stars one of the “stars” will go home, but have you ever wondered how they were chosen to dance the dance in the first place? Well Jimmy Kimmel Live exposed the secret and now it all makes so much sense to me. Seriously how many times have you gone to the Dollar Store and seen something being sold with the face of one of the people that put on their dancing shoes for the ABC competition show? I have seen stuff there from *NSYNC, Donny & Marie, most of those Disney stars I never heard of and so many more, so it all makes sense to me now. Now that you know the truth, won’t you be looking to see what stars will be dancing on the show next season? I know I will be.
Jack Wagner is one of the many “stars” who will be on Dancing with the Stars this season and it looks like rehearsal is taking its toll on the 52 year old soap opera star. He Tweeted the above picture and said “A little beat up 2day, one of us is sweating n the other is cooooool!! Clearly my shirt is the 1 drenched..ugh!” Even though he feels he needs a new shirt, after seeing him in a wet T-Shirt I think that Love Can Take Us All The Way. After all he is single again, and we are both available!
Te cast of this season’s Dancing with the Stars was announced and it is definitely better than last season. Here is the who they are:
Jack Wagner – Star of “General Hospital” and “Melrose Place”
Melissa Gilbert – Emmy Nominated Actress
Donald Driver – Green Bay Packers all-time leading receiver
Sherri Shepherd – Co-host of “The View”
Gavin DeGraw – Famed singer/songwriter
Martina Navratilova – Tennis legend with 359 victories
Roshon Fegan – Actor in hit Disney Channel show “Shake It Up”
Maria Menounos – TV host Extra
Jaleel White – Steve Urkel in “Family Matters”
Gladys Knight – Music Legend and empress of soul
William Levy – Telenovela superstar
Katherine Jenkins – Acclaimed opera star
At least with the cast I know who half of them are. I want Gladys Knight to win because she is so cool, but I think she will be a long shot. Melissa Gilbert will do great and she also has my vote. I think Jack Wagner will be stiff, but hopefully I will be wrong. Jaleel White is a great get, but I hope he doesn’t use this opportunity to keep telling us he is not Steve Urkel. If he plays it cool, I think he will win us over. When it comes to the rest, I just don’t care enough about them to comment.
And now I am debating if I will watch the show when it comes on March 19th because there are people that I actually like competing.
Stevie Wonder was The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday and he performed his classic hot Superstition. When she asked the Motown Legend if it is true that he will be doing Dancing with the Stars he said, “I’m losing weight. When I get to where I feel like I’m gonna look good enough for what I wanna do, I’ll do that.” Stevie, you don’t need to lose any more weight, so please sign on to do the ABC reality show. I would start watching again just for you. Who else would watch just for him!
Melissa Joan Hart’s career was revived/saved thanks to Dancing with the Stars and the actress took the Twitter to complain about something about the show yesterday. Sabrina the Teenage Bitch, I mean Witch (it was an innocent typo) said “I get a little peeved seeing people on Dancing With the Stars with kids in the audience.I wasn’t allowed to have my kids watch me dance!WTF!” I can understand that that might upset her because Nancy Grace’s twins (the one that are not in dress) and Coco Arquette get to watch their parents and she didn’t get to have her boys at the show; but she should keep that thought to herself. Because after all if it wasn’t for DWTS she would be at home with her two boys and not working on an ABC Family sitcom with Joey Lawrence. He also had his career revived/saved because of DWTS, but unlike her he has never sad a bad word about it and is only thankful for it!
Maybe if she was more grateful for how her career has turned out for the better in the last two years since she put on her dancing shows, people like Jimmy Kimmel wouldn’t have the obvious zingers to say to her! That joke will never get old, it is so 1996, two years ago, today and tomorrow!!!
Maksim Chmerkovskiy broke some news on his Twitter today by saying, “One thing that could make this Halloween weekend better—-NOT having a broken toe! Got @TeddyV & @BigMervLA helping out!” I guess that is the side effect of putting your foot in your mouth as often as he does.
BTW I think he was right by saying what he said to the Judges. They need to be more respectful of the celebrities who are doing something they have never done before and giving it their best shot. They don’t need the Judges treating them like professionals and being as rude as they have been. And I have always thought the Judges have had their favorites and have been unfair to the ones that are not. For example they love Derek Hough and always give his celebs the praise, but Lacey Schwimmer they have never liked and ripped her stars a new one. She gets the ones that need the most training and they don’t give her credit for that. But Derek who gets the ones that have a dancing background they love and praise. Just saying.
